2K Games Fires PR Group After DNF Review Fiasco

Remember, in such cases, it's very often the PR people who are to blame. Don't go after the game publisher immediately.

Earlier today, a post on The Redner Group's Twitter page hinted that the firm might blacklist sources and sites that give the recently released Duke Nukem Forever a particularly low score. The post read:

"Too many went too far with their reviews…we are reviewing who gets games next time and who doesn't based on today's venom."

A second post went on to say- "bad scores are fine. Venom filled reviews…that's completely different." Obviously, gamers quickly latched on and publisher 2K Games caught wind of the mess. The company has announced they won't be doing business with Redner in the future, and they don't condone such comments. You can find 2K's responses at their own Twitter feed .

"2K Games does not endorse or condone the comments made by @TheRednerGroup and confirm they no longer represent our products."

And:

"We maintain a mutually respectful relationship with the press and will continue to do so. We don't condone @The RednerGroup's actions at all."

Since then, Redner has apologized profusely but it seems the damage is already done. Stay tuned for PSXE's review, which will go up later tonight.

2K: Duke Brings Over-The-Top Fun Back To FPSs

As you might expect, publisher 2K Games has been heavily promoting Gearbox's Duke Nukem Forever .

And among the new assets they've delivered to the press is a very clear message : DNF marks the return of the good old-fashioned shooter; i.e., it's "an antidote for today's clichéd FPS archetypes." Above all else, it's the main character that should grab your attention, as DNF features a video game hero like none other. As 2K routinely says, this is no sci-fi space marine or "Bourne" clone; it's a "much missed cocktail of alien invasion, busty babes, brawny comedy and big f**kin' guns." Well, regardless of how the game turns out, we have to agree that gaming takes itself too seriously too often, and DNF reminds us of that shameless fun we seem to have lost.

The demo – currently available for First Access members – is receiving mixed reactions, though, so we'll have to wait and see…

XCOM Unveiled: Humanity Is Under Attack In 2012

Sci-fi fans will revel in the concept, and shooter fans might like the compelling atmosphere.

2K Games has announced XCOM , in development at 2K Marin and coming to the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC on March 6, 2012 (the international release is three days later). Dubbed "a gripping tactical action experience set in mid-century America," the game features "deep, visceral gunplay with powerful sci-fi abilities. In some ways, this is reminding us of last year's Singularity , and that's not a bad thing.
