I think I've stumbled upon a big reason why a lot of gamers get peeved when these high-def/next-gen upgrades arrive.

Maybe it's because they're covering up the fact that 2014 might not be the epic year many anticipated it would be.

We all talk about the Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster , and now The Last Of Us: Remastered is stealing headlines left and right. Compare this with news of big-name games like The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt being pushed into 2015, and one starts to realize that upgraded versions of old games appear to be getting more attention than new upcoming titles. Is it merely because a lot of those upcoming titles are either a ways off or remain without a fixed launch date?

We don't know if games like Uncharted 4 or Driveclub will arrive this year, for instance (not convinced The Order: 1886 will release in 2014, either) although we hear the new Halo is on track. We'll also get the standard assortment of blockbuster third-party installments this holiday season; Call of Duty , Assassin's Creed , Batman , etc. But if you really look at the current 2014 release schedule, it's not overwhelmingly amazing. Maybe this is at least part of reason updated iterations of older games are getting so much recognition.
