Thus far, it seems the PlayStation 4 hasn't run into any catastrophic, far-reaching reliability issues.

Officially, Sony has only confirmed problems with a "very small number" of shipped systems and for the most part, the new console has avoided negative headlines. However, the number of Blu-Ray playback complaints continues to rise.

GamingBolt has assembled several complaints grabbed from Twitter; some users are saying they can't get any Blu-Ray movies to play on the console. Others say they can't get specific titles to play, such as "Despicable Me." Many also say that these very same discs run just fine on the PS3, so it's clearly a PS4 hardware issue. Twitter is filling up with very similar complaints and we're hoping this is something Sony will address ASAP. Many are calling for a patch that will fix these issues, which are definitely irritating.

It's hard to be a living room entertainment hub when one of the primary features doesn't work at all. Have you encountered any Blu-Ray drive problems with your PS4? If so, how severe are they?

I haven't put a single thing inside my PS4 yet. It's been all digital.

First I've heard about this issue. I don't visit "the police state" for my gaming news.

I'm on my 2nd ps4 and now I'm having problems with the system auto ejecting disc.

You must have terrible luck!

The only issues i have with my PS4 is the loudness of the drive is a little excessive and I'm not a big fan of the new analog sticks. Other than those two things, i LOVE it!

Tell me about it my 1st ps4 stop displaying a picture after 3 weeks. The replacement one just started ejecting the disc on its own a few days ago.

Another reason I'm glad I decided to wait. Last generation had some reliability issues for both PS3 and especially the 360. With more tech, I can only imagine the issues will reoccur or get worse.

Funny, last time I saw something posted here about other PS4 media capabilities people said the machine's primary use is video games.

Never tried a movie in it, you'd hafta be nuts to pay money for something that's over in 2 hours and never changes 😛

Rather wait for a blu-ray to be $10 and watch it on my home theater and find out I don't like it than pay $20 for me and the wife to sit with a bunch of strangers and find out we don't like it.

Plus if you really like it, you watch it more than once.

On the other hand no other form of entertainment can compete with the value of a video game, especially an rpg or strategy game.

Hmmm – that sounds like a Naughty Dog production to me… :p

lol @ Beam, good shot there.

As far as movies go that's one thing where I'm more up to date. I like my streaming services.

Yeah, but the jab misses because I've never played a Naughty Dog game that takes less than 8 or 9 hours to complete at a minimum. 🙂 In fact, the Uncharted games and especially TLoU offer some of the longest single-player linear action experiences of the last generation.

You're right of course Ben (although it was strange to go from the 10 hour Uncharted 2 to 8 hour Uncharted 3) but it was an okay insult if you prefer super long games.

I just can't get over how f*cking LONG Dead Space 3 is. I'm over 15 hours in now.

Pfft it was the strictly directed nature of the ND productions I was referring to, the "never changes" part.

I dunno. I'm still waiting on my Uncharted go-kart game.

I wonder what they'll do in the PS4 era. Going from Crash Bandicoot to Jak and Daxter to Uncharted were all pretty substantial changes!

All these little things just make me happy Infamous was delayed. I have terrible luck and would have ended up with every problem the ps4 has experienced and probably a few no ones ever heard of.

Maybe when Infamous is out, they bugs will be gone.

I am not happy it was delayed. 🙁 But if it means a better game then by all means. Speaking of… I just got my inFamous PlayStation Card. Not even going to use it. In 30 days ordering the Killzone themed card and saving that too.

Not really excited to wait longer, just saying it works out alright. Especially if it makes Infamous even better.

Knock on Silicon, I have NEVER ran into these types of issues on any of my launch consoles. Only issues I've ever experienced were the PS2 upside-downing. Which Worked for years that way and it was after a few years it even started. My Original BC PS3 melted when I played Uncharted 2 for to many hours to mention and of course who can forget the blowing into cartridges trick. Other than those I've been fairly lucky with hardware.

I think we need to realize this is not just an issue with the PS4. It's blu – ray players in general. The PS3 had issues with the bluray drive, the Xbox one is having a very large amount of bluray drive issues, and even solitary bluray players have issues. So I don't think this is a case where we should be looking at the PS4 but rather bluray drives in particular.

On another note I haven't stuck a movie or even downloaded any of the video apps on my PS4. I kept my PS3 for that stuff. My PS4 is a pure gaming machine..

i hav'nt had no problems with the blu-ray drive, all the movies i've played have worked. the only issues i have with the ps4 are sometimes wi-fi problems, an also when i switch the ps4 on before the tv it sometimes does'nt output any audio an have to re-boot to get it back, other than those problems everything seem to be fine.

I had a problem with Blu-ray playback, but my mom (surprisingly) got it to work over the break when i was back home. Furious 6 didn't play until i discontinued the internet connect for playback on that specific disc. no problems now.

I remember having trouble playing certain blu-ray movies on my PS3 when it first came out. I wonder if it's the same (or a similar) culprit.

The only problem I had was the jet engine fan noise when I was standing my PS4 upright. Since I laid it down flat I haven't had one issue. I hope this problem gets ironed out for all the gamers that are experiencing it. This sounds like a firmware problem. Sony will get it fixed.

At some point I'm going to have to actually try some blurays in my ps4.
I've been kinda nervous to try them since this kind of news arrived shortly after launch, so I've still been using my ps3 for movies.

So far I haven't had any problems actually playing any Blu-Rays on the PS4, though my family and I have gotten irritated with using the DS4 to try to access menus, rewind, or do any of the normal playback operations. I'd really like to use the official Bluetooth remote for the PS3 with the PS4, but there's no option to pair it, yet… Hopefully, that's coming in an update soon.

I think its an issue with the blu ray discs themselves. I rented fast 6 and it didn't load, returned it and got another copy that worked with no issues.

Also no complaints here yet either. If I have anything (which is far from a deal breaker) is not being able to play/transfer stuff from USB memory stick. But I planned on keeping my ps3 hooked up anyhow. She's still gonna be my main netflix, blu ray player, and media hub. Plus still a few ps3 games I want to play through.
