Ben-DutkaWe've seen a lot of comparisons between the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. But how does the PS4 stack up against the PS3?
Of course, it's more advanced, but what are the specific differences? We get a few answers thanks to German publication ComputerBild (as translated by GamingBolt ); there's some info concerning the weight and measurements, as well as HDMI support.
For instance, the Dual Shock 4 is slightly heavier than the Dual Shock 3 (214 grams vs. 190 grams) and the debug console unit comes in at 2,764 grams with a measurement of 30.5 x 27.6 x 5.4 cm (width x depth x height). As for HDMI, that's all the PS4 will support, so if you've got one of those old CRT screens, you're out of luck. The newer, faster hard disk speed is capable of speeds between 80 and 100 MB per second, and the PS4 should even be significantly quieter than the current console. The new machine was rated with a 0.83 Sone level, while the PS3 typically runs at about a 2.1 Sone rating.
These extra little details are great for the hardware lovers. Me, I just want the damn thing sitting in my entertainment center.

Indeed, I am on my third PS3 now, all which could have been avoided had Sony placed the same 19 Blade fan Japanse PS3's got.

I'm still on my first (time flies as it's close to 7 years old), knock on wood, though it is beginning to show signs of wear and tear. The sound started crackling while I was playing Last of US and Tekken Tag 2, which seem to be remedied by resetting to factory settings. Then the other day, I was downloading Shadows of the Colossus from the PSN, and when i returned, the system was shut down, and when booted up, it indicated it was shut off unsafely, I'm guessing from overheating. So, I'll probably backup my data, and buy another ps3 to be on the safe side.
Also on my first PS3 also, it seems a lot of people don't take good care of their stuff.
As much as I like what the first commentor said, unfortunately system hardware's don't last forever.
If not forever it better be a long dang time. I've never had hardware fail on me except for game consoles, with the exception of Nintendo. Ps3 phats were unacepptable. It died in 2 years under careful care. Any ps3 phats still running since 2006 are either a rare bunch or running on its last leg n have a ps3 slim just in case it dies out or at least looking into good ps3 deals.
Look I love Sony but I'd be a blind fanboy not to admit my frustration on having a $600 console fail on me in 2 years. The exceptions are those who still have theirs running not those who have it fail on them.
I have the 80gb phat (with bigger HDD) non mgs4/motorstorm bundle since 2009 and still kicking strong. I can't say anything about the 60GB 0r 20GB but it was a disaster for Sony, losing like $300/premium model for each system sold and the fact that they gambled on Blu-ray, whole thing made me feel uncomfortable.

The HDD seems pretty fast to me.
Question for the more tech savy – if I want to upgrade the hdd on day one to a 1TB – what you recommend?
After numerous disc failures I don't buy Seagate. I can only find a 1TB 2.5" Western Digital in blue – which takes a performance hit compared to black.

I want to do the same thing, although I have not had any bad experiences with Seagate so I don't mind getting one of those.
My main question is: is the stock HDD 5400 rpm or 7200 rpm? That's really what I want to know.

Bad luck with Seagate that sucks.

Hmmmm so thats why my Turtle Beaches wont work anymore. Because it only supports HDMI!
It still has digital optical out for your turtle beaches.
My Beaches dont have that
How about USB? Idk since I don't game with a mic only IM on cpu.
That is goddamn stupid. I only have a CRT TV with Component…. They can't force us to play on that stupid LCD bull crap with its input lag. I'm pissed…
It's about time you upgrade. 10 years for a TV is good enough.
And I don't think 0.005 (5ms) seconds is going to be felt. If you did feel input lag from a good LCD it's because you didn't have *gaming mode on* or something.
And well if you're at the point where you can tell the 0.005 seconds difference then you're at the point where you can just act 0.005 seconds faster. You'll be used to it in an hour.
+ a lot of games where timing is really crucial will give you input corrections to make sure the timing is perfect. Also you will be able to have a clearer image. I dumped my crts long ago for good LEDs and I never regretted it. Nearly everything is made to display 1080p now so all is good.

But Neo, there is a huge group of people who speedrun older games that require you to have nearly perfect frames when doing specific things and only CRT's have that kind of precision (afaik). Not saying I'm one of those people, but there is a reason why a lot of people use the original hardware still when it comes to those games.
Lowkey, their is other ways around it, I believe there is cables out there that provide HDMI to component.

Typical first world scum bags. Maybe he doesn't want to spend money on a HDTV. Maybe he doesn't like HDTV's so that's why he doesn't want to get one. There are many reasons. One of my personal reasons is what happens when I want to take my PS4 somewhere and it doesn't have an HDTV? I can't play it now. Some hotels don't have HDTV's, some family members might not have it and many other situations.
There is zero reason not to include component. It's just anti consumer BS that you corporate slaves will just defend.
I'm going to guess that you have at least a HDTV CRT.
The good news is that there are analogue/digital converters that do take HDMI and convert to component (assuming PS4 GAME output isn't HDCP encrypted). The bad news is they aren't cheap!
Also, if you're so dead set against LCD, when you can afford to upgrade, there's always plasma sets.
If you are actually still using an SDTV CRT, then you don't actually need a "television" to game, just buy any computer monitor with an HDMI input. You're missing out on so much of the finer detail that just can't be shown on 480i/p.
One final thought, I bet no game developer for the PS4 is taking the time to optimize their game's for CRT televisions.

Mmm yeah but the PS4 will be a new system. Plus don't forget that if ALL ps4s are HDMI then no one will have the *edge* for a speed run with a CRT so all will remain fair. In fact it will make it fair for everyone.
Yeah, I'm not down with the HDMI-only requirement. For me it's not an issue as I have a TV with HDMI. However, I can understand how those without it could be irritated.
it does'nt make sense that the PS4 only supports HDMI.

Seems like a logical choice in this day-n-age. I don't know anyone that still uses analogue connections for audio and video.

Just because you don't know of anyone doesn't mean it's a "this day and age" type thing. Component should be included period. There is zero reason not to include it. It's just anti consumer BS. Just like the whole physical format VS non physical. Physical is better for consumers but the naive, blind, sheep corporate slaves say otherwise. Requiring internet for something that can work just as good if not better is also stupid. No expandable storage, no removable battery, etc, is all anti consumer and anyone who defends it is a fool.

Sorry but if you can afford a ps4 n many of its games there are lots of options for HDTVs that are relatively cheap around 32 inches from 240 to 400 dollars. At 500 plus you can get over 40 inches. Anyone complaining about CRT support should be the ones that don't want to replace their huge 60 to 70 inch CRTs cause well those thongs are dang huge.
Amonte if society goes the way you envision we would still be in the stone age. I can see the same type of person complaining about not having g VCR support for their favorite movies or even someone who doesn't want to move on to color TVs from black and white.
I understand about being anti consumer but for the most part we've adapted well when things are being forced upon us. For example, things like all digital would be anti-consumer at this point because because of such reasons like our internet not being ready in speed or costs for the majority. However with hdmi, its been a long time since HDTVs were introduced n they are very much affordable now especially if you can afford a ps4 itself.
well the size and quietness will be nice as for the HDD if we are"suppose to be downloading a whole lot" we sud be getting 1 or 2 TB HDD but ohwell atleast it will be much quieter and a bit smaller less space.

Dudes both next gen consoles support only HDMI and this new is nothing new for me I knew a long time ago, bevasue those specifications were public, when preorders began in Europe. And HDMI calbe will be included. this is sutpid to complain, almost all of you who complains may have ps3 and you are playing on HDTV´s. And if you want 1080p quality then CRT wont help you. NEXTGEN means that console hardware is for nextgen tech not for antique technology like CRT.
one thing i hate about current TVs, they always put most if not all HDMI slots on the side, but optical and other ports are at the back making it a pain in the a$$ if you want to wall mount your display.
caused me a massive headache when i was looking for my new tv last year especially because of the rotel sound processor i had did not have HDMI ports, and theres no f*cking way im buying another one of those anytime soon there over 5 grand!
TVs being so tall, why do we always have to restrict the panel on the side of the TV to like 5% of the TVs height?
why does the majority of ports have to be at the back of the TV making it a pain to wall mount?
anyway, disappointed the ps4 does not use a 7200rpm HDD.
especially with the much greater emphasis on downloaded content, and game installs off the disc will probably continue, that really would of helped speed up load times.
one thing i hate about TLoU and GTAV, you boot the game up, go to the loo, go make a coffee, go feed the dog, and by the time your done your still sitting there waiting for the game to load!
i mean come on, maybe i need to give the game a sip of the coffee?
I would think the cheaper end HDTV's do that. Popular brands would be at least 1 on side.

What bothers me more is that it seems that bluetooth headsets are not – and will not be – supported. That's a huge *wtf* for me. I got friggin' THREE of'em, only purchased for console gaming.
How about for the people who just bought gaming headsets and planing to get their PS4 on launch, the headsets could be useless.
