Rumor: Dualshock 4 Will Work Natively With PC

This could be a very useful feature if true.

While it wasn't impossible to get a Dualshock 3 to work as a gamepad on your PC it wasn't the kind of quagmire you wanted to get involved in unless you knew what you were doing.

The other day a redditor posted a second hand confirmation that the Dualshock 4 would work natively on the PC via USB. The source's information comes from a developer of Galak-Z: The Dimensional , a classic shooter by 17-Bit in development for Playstation 4 and PC, while on the show floor at PAX.

“Per this same dev, Galak-Z currently is not stable on the PS4. Thus they had PCs with DS4s on the show floor running the game. I asked if this implied the PS4 controller works on PC, which he said 'yes it works as a regular USB controller'.”

This is great news if you are both a Playstation and a PC gamer. I know the old mouse and keyboard serves many gamers faithfully but some games just have to be played with a favorite controller in my opinion.

We do not yet have any confirmation that the Dualshock 4 will also work wirelessly via bluetooth or that the touchpad will function as it does with the PS4.

Might nearly be time for me to try PC gaming properly if this is the case.

Anyone suggest any title I should try on the PC with a DS4 controller first?

I like a wide variety of games..GT,GOW,BF3,Uncharted,DS to mention a few.

Sonic All Stars Racing Transformed is awesome on PC at 60fps and 1080p, better even with it's exclusive characters. There's like 3 of them.

Pretty much every game I can think of that's better with a controller doesn't have anything exclusive to pc. PC gaming can be kinda of a royal pain so I'd recommend you stick to console unless you have a better motivation than just being able to use a DS4.

Thanks guys.

I'll try any Sonic game. Just wish the blue fuzz would actually return to his formy glory…

I tried PC gaming using the keyboard before and hated it. Still most xbox exclusives seem to go PC too so might try a few of those this time.

If this could be true I would be so happy. Getting the DS3 to work on the PC is a pain in the rear. I am sick to tears of using a 360 controller on the PC and would welcome the DS4 having native support. Just so long as it doesn't require Win8 or something silly to work.

If it could also be natively supported by Android as well, that would be pretty sweet.

Apparently on the floor at PAX it was working with Windows 7. Nobody would use Windows 8 on purpose.

How was it a pain? Plug in, run motionjoy. Simple as that o.o I use it to play PS2 emulation stuff all the time.

Getting motioninjoy set up is the pain. Took me a while to get it to work the first time (after that it does get very simple), and a friend of mine still hasn't managed that.

Really? Did you try to look up on any instructions or anything? It was pretty easy-peasy and straight forward to me. I guess having to use so much stuff to make it work might be frustrating and difficult for some people.

It took a couple of tries to get mine to work on PC but i eventually got it. It didn't allow me to just plug it in and run the program, i had to disable something in the bootup menu for it to work.

But if this is correct with the DS4 controller having native support I am glad, this way i don't have to adjust or calibrate the controller on certain games.

The only time when i use the controller though is when the game is best suited for it like Dark Souls on PC, the controls on that game are bad.

Lovin' it!
And if now the controller interface itself follows standards then I can almost guarantee that it also will work via bluetooth since that data exchange protocol *is* a standard.

And I agree – some games are best played with a controller.

A long time ago I got a very Dualshock-esque Airflo controller for emulating PS games on PC 🙂

That would be great if we could do bluetooth with the PC. It's been an annoyance that the PS 3 controller has been hard to get to work on the PC.

As I play on ps3 and pc equally and prefer a ps controller above all else, if this is true, then this could be my favorite bit of gaming news for the entire next generation.

I have never liked xbox controllers as they are not symmetrical and while they have 3rd party controllers that are similar to ds3's it's easier to just use a xbox controller because now games are pre-set to use them.

WTF would you want to use a DS4 on the PC!?
mice and keyboard just gives you so much more control and precision than the clunky blind shot in the woods analog sticks.
exactly why i was so excited for the move, i was hoping that would replace them and actually give us something half accurate and easy to use, especially for shooters!

another thing thats really worrying me though.
this was running on PC because its still too unstable on ps4?
but i thought getting games up and running on ps4 was suppose to be a sinch?
just seems a bit concerning that were 2 months away from release and still so many games are still not running on dev kits.
just makes me really worried were going to have another wiiu launch on our hands.

It wasn't that hard to get my PS3 controller to work with my laptop just download Motion Joy follow their instructions, you only have to go into the bios once to allow the USB ports to recognize it correctly, and you're good to go.

Though having the PS4 controller good from the get go is great.

I sure hope that's true, I use an Xbox 360 wired controller for Windows with PC and although it's perfectly functional I hate that left analog stick position. If I could just plug a PS4 controller in with no problems and no screwing around with that kinda-sorta works on some games MotionJoy program I'd be one happy camper.
