Will Gamescom Turn Into A PS4 vs. Xbox One Exclusive War?

Gamescom 2013 kicks off in just a few weeks time, and both Sony and Microsoft have promised some big game announcements.

Therefore, it's very likely that post-Gamescom, we'll all be comparing new exclusive titles on each platform. Many are expecting a few more exclusives to be revealed, although we don't know if any of them will be launch titles.

The question is this- given the current situation, do you see Gamescom as being a potential turning point? Could Microsoft outstrip Sony in terms of new announcements, thereby reversing the momentum? Or will Sony do what it has always done best, which is crush the competition by way of exclusive software that's head-and-shoulders above the competition? The latter may not be a realistic possibility, just because it has become clear that the PS4 isn't that much more powerful than the Xbox One. The PS3, on the other hand, had all sorts of capability and we've been seeing that on a frequent basis.

The other major announcement that could arrive is a launch date for both the PS4 and Xbox One. If one comes out well before the other, perhaps that will create a slight uptick in popularity. Still, the two consoles probably won't be that far apart (likely only a matter of weeks), so maybe the actual date won't matter; maybe the lingering price issue will be the most important. The fact that the Xbox One is $100 more than the PS4, along with a few other points (Kinect is required, for example), might let Sony keep the ball in its court. But you never know…

They both did make it sound like they have some good stuff to show, thought I can't imagine Microsoft having too many more unannounced games with stuff to show.

It can definitely be a turning point for one to surpass the other, but either way competition is awesome for a consumer like me! I can't wait!

If sony sells 120 mil and Msft sells 80 mil lifetime sales, i dont see either one being unhappy with the sales. There is definitely space for both platform to coexist. Nintendo may just blend into the background like it always were before the Wii.

Might not matter. If Sony shows a teaser for Uncharted 4 then it's all over.

They already made a spiritual successor to Black called Bodycount.

Don't get your hopes up for a direct sequel anytime soon.

I can't imagine anything Microsoft can bring out to top PS4.

Uncharted and Ratchet & Clank > Halo/Gears of War

isent that the whole point of these events?
gamescom, PAX, E3, TGS, have always been about who has the most, biggest, baddest, exclusives.
i hope $ony reveals what SM are working on, what ND are working on, what bend are working on, sony jappan are working on, and maybe even GGs new IP.
probably will have to wait till next E3 for that though, they wont want to steal the limelight away from KZSF.
hope some of them are launch titles too, because KZSF and knack just aint gonna cut it for launch titles!
its a shame driveclub has such a heavy emphasis on social media and that tripe, if it was a open world racer like forza horizon it would be the killer launch title!
oh well, i guess forza 5 will have to do.

LOL @ FORZA HORIZON COMMENT.

Forza Horizon was complete rubbish, and a huge step backwards in terms of what the other Forza games offered.

And the only thing the Forza proper titles ever offered that was worth writing home about was a high degree of customization to your car's appearance and mindless driving fun online/offline that anyone ages 4-104 could do even if it's your first time playing the game.

And the rewind feature that was added in Forza 3 forever cheapened the game's claim of being a "simulation racer" in the same league as Gran Turismo.

That rewind feature is tantamount to cheating in my eyes, and I don't like it, nor do I approve of it.

I got a strong feeling that a vast majority of current console gamers have already made up their mind by now. If Microsoft manages to create something good out of this event it will mainly influence those who still are on the fence, and that's mainly people who are new to the console world and curious now that the next gen is upon us.

Much like where I was back when the current generation consoles launched.

I think MS still has room to win back the people they smacked in the face.

Well, yeah. Some of them can be won back, I think you're right there. But I seriously doubt they can win anywhere near a majority of them.
I just sense it from other sites on the web. I don't see anywhere near that usual platform fanboy rage from that side. They all seem reserved, at best.

I sense an atmosphere of change.

@World, I agree. Sony still clearly has a bit of a momentum advantage but it is very, very early in the game. Microsoft isn't about to rollover.

I too feel that disruption in the force. It is a disruption in that it is slightly calmer than it should be.

I sort of feel at the end of this generation, in the last 2 years, there's more momentum and enthusiasm for PS3 than the other two systems too. I wonder, assuming I'm right, if that will have an affect. Of course, there's no way to know for sure, but it is a sense I get. Especially since PS3 has surpassed 360 in sales and there's that whole early model 360 failure rate to account for.

It will be interesting, but I feel confident in Sony staying ahead.

I would guess that Sony has one or two launch titles up their sleeve. Several of their studios have not been heard from, and they probably have had dev kits for a couple of years.

I think the focus will be at Microsoft. They have been building momentum while Sony has been sitting pretty well high on the mountain. It will come down to the killer games both sides need to show. Features are fine and everyone has seen and heard all that back in the spring.

NOW it comes down to the nitty gritty. What games, other than what has been seen and teased, are they going to show. Both sides need to show something they have not shown yet. Killzone is a sold, many want it, but we do not need to see anymore right now. Not at the forefront anyway. T

Sony needs to REALLY sell the PS4 because of games and people want to see what will be there are launch for the first day buyers.

It will be a bit of a battle and it comes down to these games, the exclusives OR if either side wants to throw money at the debs/publisheres, what exclusives (timed or otherwise) will one system get over the other.

Should be interesting to watch. 🙂

Keep playing!

I wish Sony would throw some cash around for unique stuff or maybe popular remakes (hint), I don't mind MS tossing it at shooters.

I just hope we start seeing more games coming. My Sony next-gen mojo is at a low right now. The whole change just feels depressing and not very exciting to me.

It's been months and it seems we're still seeing the same stuff.

I hope that we see something good from Sony.

I still reckon they will hold a few cards for TGS later this year.

As for Microsoft they still havent opened up the dictionary to find out what innovation is in any of their products so I'm expecting more of the same.

I'm probably one of the few people also hoping for something new from Naughty Dog. Don't get me wrong, I love the Uncharted series but it's time for them to move on as they have done with the previous three generations. Crash Bandicoot, Jak and Daxter, Uncharted.

All they are missing this gen is an uncharted racing game for the PS3.
