There has been a lot of speculation concerning the next generation of consoles; specifically, when Sony and Microsoft will launch their new high-tech machines.
The latest theories seem to lean toward Microsoft releasing their new console first, as they did this past generation. Sony has also said many times that they remain committed to the PS3 (and PlayStation Vita, as evidenced by their Gamescom presentation).
However, EA's Frank Gibeau claims to have "seen both of them," which raises a few interesting questions if we are to extrapolate a bit. If both are available to be seen, does that imply that both Sony and Microsoft are gearing up at about the same time? Should we expect both new consoles to hit the market within a few months of each other? Do developers have both next-gen systems in their sights when tackling fresh projects for all-new hardware? It's too bad Gibeau didn't go into a bit more detail.
But it'll be interesting to see what happens next year, as Sony may be looking to keep pace with Microsoft, regardless of when the new Xbox hits. In the past, Sony has said they don't want to be a year behind again going into the new generation, so…
