There are some games that have stood the test of time. The Mega Man series has, for better or worse, been one of those series. Thirty years ago the first game was released on the original Nintendo. It has since influenced many games with it’s music, gameplay, and iconography. Even to this day the older games still can stand up to today’s standards. If you’re a fan (and even if you’re not) there is some good news on the horizon.
Earlier this evening Capcom had a live stream in celebration of the 30 year anniversary for the series. Towards the end of the stream they dropped a couple big blue bombs. The first is that they are releasing Mega Man X 1 through 8 on newer systems including the PS4. They didn’t give much detail on these but it will be nice to play them on newer systems.
The most exciting news was the announcement of Mega Man 11 due to come out in late 2018. That’s right, after 8 years there is a new Mega Man game coming out. Mega Man 10 came out in 2010 and was a pretty big hit.
You may notice the departure in the art department. Instead of the pixels we’re used to seeing, the game has a hand drawn look. It definitely gives it a flashy sense of style. That aside the gameplay looks very promising. Take a look.
There is something else to take notice of from the footage. Mega Man’s armor changes with the boss powers. In older games it only changed the color for whichever power you had equipped. In this case it looks like the armor gets a whole new aesthetic. Which is pretty awesome.
The latest thing that was close to having a new Mega Man game was Mighty No. 9 and most fans weren’t all that pleased. Here’s hoping Mega Man can wash away the bad taste left behind by that. With Capcom at the helm it looks promising. My fingers are crossed.
What do you think of this news? Are you excited to play a new Mega Man? How about playing the Mega Man X series?
