A Movie Game That DoesnÂ’t Suck

If you have been gaming long enough, you know that most games based on movies just aren’t that great. The same can be said for the other way around as well. But every once in awhile they make a game based on a movie that’s actually pretty good. And that’s a discovery I made recently that I’d like to relay to you.

Earlier this year a remake of The Mummy came out starring good ol Tom Cruise. The movie tanked and according to critics, is pretty bad. But that didn’t stop them from making a game based on the movie. Funny thing is, the game is actually pretty good.

The game is called The Mummy Demastered and is a Metroidvania style game. And unlike a lot of games in this style, it’s very well done. The art-style is very reminiscent of 16 bit or even 32 bit pixel games. If I had to compare it to a couple other games it’s very similar to Castlevania: Symphony of the Night and Axiom Verge . And I would even say it’s fairly comparable in quality too.

One thing that makes this game stand out is how death works. When you die, your body rises up and hangs around the area where you died. Any weapons or power ups you may have had are in possession of this zombie you. You have to make your way back to that spot with your default gun and fight the zombie to get your stuff back. The problem is they might use some of the weapons you had which makes it fairly challenging.

The point I’m trying to make is this: The Mummy Demastered is a hidden gem that managed to slide under the radar late last month. It’s only 20 bucks as well (on sale at the time of this writing for $14.99) on the PS Store so that makes this game a steal for what you’re getting out of it. I just didn’t want you to miss out on some quality gaming.
