A quick note about our little community of PlayStation fans.
With Ben moving on to pastures new, and I hope greener, an idea was tossed around about having an home for PSXExtreme friends and family to gather in should stormy times overtake us.
So, in the event that we need a 'storm shelter' I have created a forum for us to use for as long as we like. This forum is entirely complementary to PSXExtreme, and is not an alternative to the PSXExtreme news site. It is simply a discussion forum to allow the community to stick together and discuss stuff that doesn't quite make the gaming news.
It's still a bit rough around the edges, but it's operational, I've implemented a few themes and you can upload your avatar for use on the forum if you like. User registration is open, and verified by email.
Here is the forum link;
So, just in case we need it, why not register there? In the mean time, All of the contributors to PSXExtreme will be doing our best to keep the lights on and the coffee fresh here.
Is there some reason why we can't use the forums on this site?
yeah, nobody's there and nobody's gonna police it and it'll die with the site if it dies.
Nobody is, yet, at this new place, either. I doubt this site is going to die just because Ben isn't writing for it. It was around long before he was.
Bio,
Here's the honest truth here. Other than Ben's weekly review, the only people currently writing for PSXExtreme are unpaid volunteers. The site owner has indicated that if anything goes wrong on the site, they'll shut it down. Currently there is some back-end functionality that either doesn't work, or doesn't work right.
There are several contributors picked by Ben who try to keep content coming, but there are limits to what can be done by people trying to fit this in between their day job, life and leisure. That's not to say we'll up and stop, we're pretty committed to this place and community. However, it seems sensible to take some precautions to have a gathering place in the event that PSXExtreme.com goes down.
Now, of course not everyone will go to a forum, but those who want to have an option.

I apologize if this has been answered before, but why did the owner decide to abandon this site?
Something to do with money I suppose?
I think he's just no longer interested in competing with the big sites, this site is quite old now and it's hard to have a great community site with a simple interface complete with giants like IGN. I thnk he likes to jump into different business opportunities and sees this as a sinking ship. Obviously its presence paid up to a point but won't last forever, then there's the possibility of a glitch and done situation.

Well that's a bummer that Val doesn't want to support the site anymore, but I don't really blame him. I signed up to the new forum. Not sure how successful that's gonna be, but it's worth a shot.
We're there dude.
I registered!
Done!
Will head over to register now.
It's ridiculous to have another forum, I left psxe forums because of the lack of interest and support from Ben and the plain fact that he hated it and refused any cooperation between the main front page and the forums.
With this extra forum it will hurt psxe even further, I loved this site but systematically it was torn down by Ben's child like retorts and opinions.
I'm considering coming back now that Ben has less to do here, but I fear it's all just too late.
I signed up with the other forum but I don't see the need for it.
There's one already here that got no love from the main site because of Ben's childishness and his inability to take opposing views as anything other than criticism. On the main site he made it a case of them (forumers) and us (main site contributors) which was never the case. The only difference was on the forum's we didn't brown nose everything he said but welcomed real debate without it turning abusive, which usually arose when Ben got a bee in his bonnet and things would escalate. Show me one argument on the forums or even in the comments section on the main page that didn't go down hill after Ben over-reacted to a discussion?
Ben may have his fans and in fairness to him, as much as I disagreed with pretty much everything he added to the site that wasn't straight up gaming news that he couldn't possibly be wrong about, he did his job and the site was always kept moving. But his personality was the most damaging to the site. You won't find much love from me here for Ben but this is a community I do quite enjoy coming back to most days and it's nice to read the new commentary's being posted by the volunteers. At least we're getting more than one man's perspective.
And as Bio already stated above, the site was here before Ben, and it could still be here for a little while longer. And if it does disappear one day in the near future, sure the back up forum is there I suppose. But right now the one on this site could be hopping if people would just go over there and forget the bad press that came from the former editor in chief.

The biggest issue is the lack of interest to push forward and improve functionality or modernize by the owner.
I would have been writing more lately (Chris Howlett) but I'm dealing with something of a major life crisis the last 3-4 weeks that's kept me away from even commenting much lately. Just bad timing on my end, really.
I hope whatever your life crisis mate that you come out of it better for it! Look forward to you getting back when you're ready.
Whatever you're going through m8, I wish you all the best.

Only popped up every now and then on this site but I'll register
I haven't signed up for the new forum yet but I did bookmark it. There was one member at the time when I checked it out. That number I'm sure has changed a lot by now.
I never had a problem with Ben as some are saying above and I didn't always agree with Ben. I never thought for once that his opinions or views merited any kind of disrespect or ridicule. He's told me that I've strayed off topic before and I stopped because I was asked to do so.
Don't anybody get offended at me and think that I'm calling them out or trying to belittle them. I just want people to know that some of us had absolutely no problem with Ben. Dave, Gordon, Drew, Chris, and the others whose names aren't popping in my head right now, I'm sure will continue to do a fine job here. But Ben's contributions to this site were greatly appreciated by me.
I'll go and sign up to the new forum. My visitation slipped, not because of any disputes as I believe I had debates and not arguments, but because I preferred the forum format to the article attached comments like this. That lead to less people visiting the forums and the decline of posts got bad, fast. You can see from my profile on the forum that I used to post a lot and I have no problem getting back on board again if general participation picked up.
