Well gee, this sucks.
According to an official statement given to GameSpot , Sony has closed one of its internal development teams, Evolution Studios.
The developer was responsible for the generally well-received (and extremely well-supported) Driveclub , as well as the very popular – and always super fun! – MotorStorm franchise. This move comes as part of Sony's restructuring of its European studios, as they work to ensure "that the resources that we have in such a competitive landscape can create and produce high quality, innovative and commercially viable products." They added that they will try to shift some team members to other developers within Sony's family, but not everyone will land fresh jobs at the company.
Driveclub director Paul Rustchynsky responded to the closing with a statement on Twitter :
"Before I sign off to take a break and spend some time with my family I just wanted to say a few words. Firstly, a big, big thank you to all the fans that have supported us throughout Evo's storied history; we couldn't have achieved what we did without you.
Thank you to Sony who helped Evo rise to the top tier of racing game teams in the world, working as a first party team has been a fantastic experience.
Last but certainly not least: A massive thank you to the whole team at Evo, it truly has been an honour to work with such a talented, passionate and determined group of people. I hope you will all join me in celebrating Evolution by picking up a pad, throwing on your favourite Evo game, and giving us a victory lap."
Evolution community manager Jamie Brayshaw also offered some parting words , saying "it's the end of an incredible era" and reminding us that Driveclub "will live on under the care of the awesome team at PlayStation." Well, that's something.
Still, don't expect a MotorStorm revival any time soon.
Related Game(s): Driveclub
Crap, I really hate to hear when a Sony 1st party developer gets their walking papers.
Whaaat?? nOOOO!!!! What's going to happen to Driveclub? It seemed to be going so well, too.
"extremely well-supported" is exactly what it is. 🙁
And Evolution Studios, oh man, I've always loved their work.
I hope for the best for everyone.
Shocked. I went straight to Twitter to send Driveclub and Rushy a tweet. Driveclub support has been outstanding and the game had reached a top level. Can't believe it.
The devs are proper quality. Shining example of commitment after mistake.
Sad days.
i was never a fan of racing games but Motorstorm just brought out the driver in me, im sad to hear there wont be anymore installments for it
MotorStorm was a differnet kind of game to DriveClub. They bet the farm on trying to be Forza/Gran Turismo.
MotorStorm was arcade racing with realism and physics, Driveclube was driving simulator with some arcade/game elements.
I kind of wish they had stuck more the the MotorStorm formula instead of trying to be a driving simulator wannabe.
I'm glad they went and tried something like driveclub. The biggest problem I they didn't execute well. It wasn't until recently the game started running right and support was in actual content rather than patches to get it stable. The game is/was super solid today.
The Motorstorms are some of my all time favorite racing games. I'm saddened that we'll probably never see a PS4 sequel.
Maybe there's still hope for outsourced Remasters of the originals.

Wonder how long those servers will last in actuality.
Ugh, 64 seconds?
Maybe.
Im gonna miss Driveclub its one of my go to games when im bored. I loved the DLC and Season Pass Support too. One of the best season passes behind The Witcher 3. I dont understand the hate this game got anyways R.I.P Evolution Studios Its been fun.
One thing we can heavily agree upon. In this day and age, Driveclub was a champion of a game's game.
With the best graphics we have ever seen to boot.
Put it in/click the icon, throttle down, try not actually crash, have fun(!).
me too. Only racing game I have for my wheel.
Driveclub killed them. The stupidly long delay of the PS Plus version, the server problems, the delays, etc… running a game as a service is fine if you can get people to sub to it. But if it's free to pay with paid DLC financing operations, you better have a real hook or the number of whales will fall over time and your profitability with it.
Yeah exactly. The idea was brilliant, they just didn't execute. It really could have been genre defining.
Driveclub is still my favorite PS4 game. Hopefully Sony continues to support it, but Gran Turismo might mess that up. Here's to hoping the new GT rewrites its PS2/PS3 mismatches in quality.
Evolution got shut down because there is no reason to pay people who aren't working on a project. No Driveclub 2 in the works and Motorstorm is an after thought which is an unpopular, but accurate statement.
Need new Burnout.
Yes Please, but can we get the old Criterion team back together for it? 😉
Just an FYI update…..
