Tales Of Berseria Setting, Character And Combat Details

If you're a JRPG fan, you're always interested to hear about a new Tales entry, right?

Then you need to check out all the updated information and details on Tales of Berseria , the recently announced installment that will land on PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 in Japan later this year.

You can find this great assembly of info and media at RPG Fan ; here are some highlights: A plague called the "daemonblight" creeps across the land and a few stalwart fighters set out to save humanity. At the center of the plot is main character Velvet and two new faces; the first is Rokurou, an adept swordsman who once suffered from daemonblight but has retained control of his senses. The other major character is Eleanor, the First Class Exorcist; she's a serious young woman on the surface, but also has a "kind and caring heart."

As for combat, developer Bandai Namco calls it a "Liberated Linear Motion Battle System." Yeah, it's a mouthful but it shouldn't be dissimilar to mechanics we've seen in previous franchise installments. Players can map arts to the face buttons on the controller, and you can link these arts with your allies. These systems are typically in-depth but still accessible, and usually lotsa fun. JRPG fans should love it, at any rate!

Tales of Berseria is supposed to come west but we don't know when. Probably not until 2017, if history is any guide. The last series effort I reviewed was Tales of Xillia 2 in 2014, which really wasn't up to snuff in my opinion, so here's hoping for a better production.

I'm leery, Zesteria doesn't make me want to put in the (very little) effort to keep playing even if it is decent.

I'm more interested and ready for Star Ocean. That is a more serious experience.

Probably let this Tales pass me by until cheap, as they always become. I bought the last few on day 1, that's enough support for the devs.

Looks sweet. Velvet looks like an interesting character. And I'm loving Zestiria right now. Looks like I'll be getting it.

I do like the idea of another female protag. You getting Nights of Azure?

Not sure. Don't know much about it, tbh. I'll have to watch some of the footage they've released.

Hey the combat looks really action based it probably has little emphasis on RPG elements. Get the DmC out of my Tales games…/s

Look at those juggles…Seriously how does this not get criticized for being an action game but FF15 always gets put on blast.

And yes I have played tales games, I played Symphonia and a bit of Vesperia before my 360 died.

Tales games have been this way since day one. If anything, it should be praised for staying true to itself all these years.

That is besides the point, the point is they are very action oriented in their combat, and in this trailer especially it looks like a single player action game, with combos and juggling.

So to someone who didn't know the series they could easily think this is an action game.

My point is that Ben, and others have jumped the gun in saying that FF15 is action over RPG, when really we have no idea yet, and the article for the stealth section slammed the game even more for being like metal gear solid.

I just feel like there is a double standard with FF15 that is all.

Believe me I hated FF13 trilogy for being a bastardization of a great franchise. BUT it was not because of the combat it was because of how shallow everything else was(FF13). I think it is crap that the franchise lost its identity.

However I feel bad for people who identify Final Fantasy of old with turn based combat, because the game was so much more than just the combat system it was using. It was the characters, the story, the variety of things to do, the exploration, the creatures, the magic, the worlds they created that made them awesome.

Would FF7 the original have been a worse game if it had been an action game when it released? I doubt it, it still would have had all the awesome minigames, characters and story, world and extra activities that made it awesome.

I just think the game should get a chance to prove itself

What I'm reading is a non issue. But okay there is a double standard with FF15.

I thought the point was that FF isn't FF, but Tales is Tales. That's just up to the peeps like you and me. Your point was awesome though.

Note the micromanagement and stat planning to allow a char to just stun lock and juggle a dire wolf like this.

True blue Tales.
