The video game industry continues to rise.
2015 was one of the strongest years in the history of the industry in the U.S., in fact, according to a new ESA press release .
Gaming brought in a whopping $23.5 billion in sales in the United States alone last year, which is an increase of 5 percent when compared to the previous year. Perhaps this is due to better software and more gamers ditching older consoles and picking up PlayStation 4 and/or Xbox One. Both Sony and Microsoft enjoyed excellent holiday periods, for example. Said ESA President and CEO Michael Gallagher:
"The video game industry excels because it anticipates demand – giving people what they want before they realize that they want it – and drives trends in entertainment and across countless other sectors. Our products are revolutionizing how we consume and interact with media. We know that hardware and software innovations have established this industry as a leader in high-tech development."
At last count, PlayStation 4 was nearing 36 million worldwide and total next-gen console sales have surpassed 55 million according to internal estimates from EA and Ubisoft. And 2016 looks even more promising with tons of amazing games.
