Loyal Final Fantasy followers might have to grab this ASAP.
A new album featuring remixes from the role-playing classic Final Fantasy VIII is now available; find all the details here .
This is a beautiful six-disc collection featuring the work of over 150 composers and YouTube personalities. The latter provided their own musical visions of the game's iconic soundtrack, which was originally composed by Nobuo Uematsu. Production company Materia Collective calls the new offerings "unique and imaginative," and obviously created by those who adore the franchise and treat it with great respect.
This album is called Successor, as it's the second remix collection from Materia Collective. The first was for Final Fantasy VII , as you might expect, and it released last October. Said Materia founder Sebastian Wolff:
"After our debut album Materia, choosing Final Fantasy VIII as a follow-up tribute album was the next logical choice, and aligning the release with the game's release anniversary seemed poignant. Final Fantasy VIII is musically distinct, and its eclectic mix of music suited our diverse skillsets."
You can now purchase Successor from various digital music outlets including iTunes , Google Play and Loudr .
And by the way, if you'd like to feel old, February 11 marked the 17th anniversary of the day FFVIII first hit store shelves. 'sigh'
There was so much ambition in the soundtrack to these Japanese games long b/f they had the tech to bring it to full life. Ditching the cartridge for CDs was a big help, but even now we're hearing better versions of post cartridge games. It's an extremely competitive category, but I think FFVIII might have my personal all time favorite OST award. Crisis Core takes the handheld by a lot though.
FF8 is my favorite in the series but with bias aside I think it has the best soundtrack out of all of them.
Holy mother of god.
I'm with Solid Fantasy. Without much thought, I'm not sure which game actually had a better scores than FF8 overall. What a juggernaut.
Intresting.
This is cool. I think music is a pretty crucial aspect to games and this soundtrack is definitely amazing.
