Homefront: The Revolution Devs Talk Free DLC, Microtransactions

These days, you better come strong with the downloadable content.

Developer Dambuster Studios understands that, which is why their upcoming game Homefront: The Revolution will receive "at least a year" of content after the title releases.

In a recent GameSpot interview , game designer Fasahat Salim was first asked about microtransactions, which will be included. But Salim emphasized the fact that these are merely shortcuts and there is no content locked behind a paywall:

"It's absolutely not a pay-to-win system because everything we're providing in these resistance crates is available for free in the game through normal play. All we're offering is, for those players that don't necessarily have the time to invest in the game, to unlock those cool things. It's basically just a time saver for them; a shortcut to unlocking these things.

"They pay a little bit of money but they're not getting anything that's exclusive to them."

Salim added that Dambuster and publisher Deep Silver will introduce new missions for free, so they'll bypass the standard Season Pass model. It's also a fact that "everything that's available in the game is available for free" and that includes the extra content that will come down the pike after launch:

"We're not doing any sort of packs. We're not making map packs or anything like that. As we're done with a mission, we're going to release it, the community can go ahead and play it, and we're going to keep doing that for at least a year after release."

Homefront: The Revolution is slated to launch on May 17 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, Linux and Mac in North America. It'll be available in all other regions three days later.

I really liked the 1st Homefront, & I'm counting on this one to be even better.

(So don't let me down, Dambuster)

I think its amazing that some publishers and devs are sticking to free content a year later.

It makes me more likely to buy the title.

Battlefront 3 was a joke, almost 200 dollars for the game and its season pass…we don't even know whats in that yet.
