Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare proved so popular, a sequel was inevitable.
And as that sequel is just around the corner, it's time to test it with a beta, which kicks off today.
As Electronic Arts reminds us, the Garden Warfare 2 beta held on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One will be available as of 12 p.m. PDT; for more, click here . The beta runs through Sunday, January 18 and lets players sample a smaller version of the Backyard Battleground, which is basically a hub area that acts as a menu and connects participants to every map and mode. You'll be able to check out a King of the Hill-type mode called Flag of the Power, Stats Doom (display all your characters' stats and achievements), and the Quest Board, where a list of dynamically updated challenges will pop up.
Other options include two 24-player modes – Herbal Assault and Gardens & Graveyard – and a bunch of cool characters. Here's more of what's included in the beta:
Kernel Corn – Leading the plant offensive as the primary assault class with dual cob busters and a high rate of fire.
Rose – An extremely powerful sorceress that can turn zombie foes into fully playable goats.
Citron – A time-travelling bounty hunter from the future – and also an orange.
Imp & Z-Mech – The smallest and most agile of the zombies that turns into a Z-Mech robo of mass destruction with missiles.
Super Brainz – The flashy, punchy-powerhouse superhero with exceptional hair and charismatic smile.
Captain Deadbeard – A crusty peg-legged captain with a trick weapon up his sleeve.
Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 2 is set to release on February 23 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. For the record, no beta test has been announced for PC but Xbox One and PC players can get in on the fun five days early if they have an EA/Origin Access membership.
