Looks like Electronic Arts was right on the money.
Last year, the publisher said they expected to ship 13 million copies of the multiplayer-centric shooter, Star Wars: Battlefront .
And despite the somewhat lukewarm critical reaction, it appears EA was right about upping their shipment estimates.
In fact, according to Wedbush Securities analyst, Battlefront has already sold 12 million units. He told Fortune that the game moved 6 million copies in November and another 6 million in December, which means the title has generated about $660 million in overall revenue. Pacific Crest Securities analyst Evan Wilson said the sales were actually a little higher; 13 million, to be precise. If these guys are right, it means the game will out-perform EA's expectations, as there's a big difference between "sold" and "shipped."
Not long after Battlefront released, EA revealed it had set a new digital record , and one has to assume that the release of "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" in theaters definitely helped the game's cause during the holiday season.

The game is garbage and the movie is shockingly even worse. So much so that I'm done with this francise permanently.

Care to explain (don't give spoilers for those that haven't seen it) why the movie is worse than the game?
Now while I don't agree with Wanderer, Force Awakens was highly disappointing to me. The big "spoiler" is what saves this movie from being the worse one in the series to me.
No way, man. The recent movie is easily better than the prequels. Easily.
I thought it was a beautiful homage to the series, and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
As for the game, it has all the pieces for me to love it, but I got bored with it WAY too fast. There's just no substance. I love the gameplay, I love the x-wing portion, etc…. but it really needs some better co-op or solo options. A campaign would have made this game amazing.
I spent a couple hours playing the game at a friends house. I was bored with the basic gameplay and formats well before the two hours was up. I think the game is beautiful to look at but I find the gameplay incredibly boring.
The basic game is a bit boring. I don't mind it but after a while I find myself like meh. It's beautiful to look at and smooth but lacks depth.
I jus thought the movie was just ok. Nothing more. I think the hype has made people go a bit nuts and over excited about it. Bits were funny in it but that was about it. Once you see it you will know what I mean. I can't say more or it will enter spoiler territory. I seen the movie twice once by myself and went again with my mate. His response was similar to mine.
The game sucks, and rode solely on the hype of the movie which is obviously more entertaining. Its funny how quickly the community died out so quick after it launched.
EA "Lets launch a game with a week worth of content so that it will release around the same time as the definitive most hyped movie of the last couple of years"
And to those 12-13 million people i say thank you for ruining gaming. I refuse to buy this online only trash. EA can take the game and shove it
Yeah thats the game that ruined gaming. Not one game out there has ruined gaming, careful with the dramatics there. Not only that but there are several single player missions you can do by yourself or using co-op so saying online only is very misleading.
Yeah. "Almost only multiplayer" would have been acceptable, though.
There's 4 training missions. Those are the only missions. And they're like 5 minute long experiences.
Other than that, you can play survival mode by yourself. The battles are just multiplayer for when your internet is down. They're hardly missions.

There are 17 (or 12 if you do not include tutorials) options to playing the game even if your offline.
Which aren't missions. They're multiplayer modes for when you can't get on the internet or just hate getting owned by good players. The gameplay is no different and it adds almost zero substance aside from the stars you might win. And then there's survival mode. They aren't missions. It's one mode across a couple maps… Heck, even CoD's zombies is deeper than SW:BF's survival…
The tutorials are the ONLY missions. Period. And they're short and easy.

I regret getting this unfinished game.
