FFXV Director: Final Phase Needs “Effort And Willpower”

It began its life way back in 2006 as Final Fantasy Versus XIII .

It should finally become a reality as Final Fantasy XV some time later this year. And while Square Enix promises that 2016 is indeed the year, the final push will require some grit and sticktoitiveness.

So says director Hajime Tabata in his recent Happy New Year's greeting to the fans. In it, he reiterates that FFXV will launch this year and he adds:

"In development, previous phases required wisdom and strength. However, moving forward the final phase will focus on effort and willpower.

I vow to you all that every member in the team will do their best to the very last possible moment taking responsibility and pride in their craft. We will do everything we can do to finish FFXV to create an experience we are incredibly proud of and one that you will enjoy and treasure."

Tabata also says the team appreciates the support of the fans over the past year: "I cannot tell you how much it means to all of us." We still don't have a finalized date for the anticipated game but there is a possibility it'll launch around the same time as Persona 5 , which would translate to a late-summer arrival. We also heard recently that one of the enhancements made in the past year was the improvement of the Cross-Link system .

Are you excited for Final Fantasy XV ?

I'm surprised they are so intimidated by Persona 5 which its a great franchise but I never thought one day SE would see it as a rival for the ''legendary'' FF franchise, they must have zero faith on their game.

Btw Persona 5 it's a turn based RPG, yes that format that SE and they brainwashed fanboys consider too archaic.

Persona 5 will land with its turn based (hopefully) battles and devastate it probably.

Yes I'm gonna give Persona 5 priority and only buy XV latter if it really turns to be great.

I would laugh my ass off if Persona 5 outsold FFXV. Didn't the FFX/X-2 HD Remaster outsell Lightning Returns…?

I still remember when Square Enix was totally shocked that Bravely Default sold over a million in North America. They flat-out said they never thought the "old-fashioned" idea would resonate outside of Japan.

…..these people really are clueless.

The thing it's that old tech never deprived those games of being good, Undertale takes a lot of the 16 bits RPG era and was one of the best surprises of 2015.

They know nothing if their own fanbase. I'm sure FFXRe outsould Lightning Returns because LR sold like around a million. We will never get figures due to hidden digital sales but I bet they are scratching their heads.

I want Persona 5 to do remarkably well not just for FF's sake, but for the genre as a whole. I would appreciate a good turn-based jRPG selling well to help people realize there is (or perhaps isn't… I hope not) money to be made in it.

It's not pure turn based, but I expect the next Ni No Kuni to outsell it's predecessor. It's created a group of fans, and I think it'll grow. I genuinely hope that's the case.

I just have this burning feeling that they are putting lots of hard work and time into some big steaming pile of pretty parts that don't add up to a great game.

That's the impression. So I'm waiting on reviews. Either way I won't play it expecting "Final Fantasy" quality because it has been proved that gaming will never get back to being that good again.

If SE is really counting their focus on effort, willpower, & moxie…….

then they need only to reverse time & bring Squaresoft back into the future.

Huh.. I would probably need a lot of effort and willpower to drag myself through the game.. Playing a final fantasy game that's final fantasy in name only, thanks to 13, I know how that will go. Luckily for me that I have alot of other choices so this thing, whatever it is, gets a pass.
