Not everybody prefers digital; some people still want the physical disc.

And while the timed PlayStation 4 exclusive The Witness will definitely begin its life as a digital-only title, there is the possibility of a physical release.

According to The Examiner , the ambitious puzzler from designer Jonathan Blow could end up in disc form, so says developer Thekla:

"…it looks like if there is a retail release, it won't happen until a little bit after the digital release. The reason is just that we need all the time we can get up until the release date in order to get all the finishing touches into the game; but because of the lead-time involved in physical manufacturing and distribution, we would have to freeze the game right about now in order to have it on store shelves for the release date.

The other possibility is that they could delay the digital launch date in order to wait for the physical, but the team doesn't really want to do that. Right now, the date is January 26 and that's not likely to change. So, if you really want that disc, you'll just have to be patient.

The Witness also releases for PC on that day and it should be fantastic. It's also much bigger than Blow's previous hit, Braid ; he's on record saying that the new effort is about "10 times bigger."

This would be a nice buy for a January fix. If they produce a physical copy gamers like myself would have more interest. Afterall, you can't put digital copies on your shelf!

As stoked for this game as I am, I'll definitely be waiting for it on disc.
Both my son and roommate are looking forward to this game as well, and the trend for digitals now is very limiting in terms of accessibility. A disc will allow all of us to play on our own profiles where the digital will most likely make it only available on my profile, forcing us to purchase multiple copies for each profile… so yeah, waiting for the disc…
