Update: Sony has officially confirmed their partnership with Hideo Kojima and his new studio; here are some comments from both and an announcement video is pasted in below:
From SCE President and Global CEO Andrew House:
"PlayStation®'s history is one of game innovation and great new franchises. Hideo Kojima has been a huge part of that history, and we are therefore delighted that he has chosen to bring his brand new project to life in partnership with PlayStation. We look forward to working with him on an exciting new game and warmly welcome him to the PlayStation family."
Said Kojima:
"I will be taking on a new challenge by establishing my own independent studio, and I am thrilled to be able to embark on this journey with PlayStation, who I have continued to work with all these past years. I cannot wait to deliver, with PlayStation, a game that will become a compelling franchise."
And yes, Kojima's first project will be exclusive to PlayStation 4! Can't wait to see what he'll deliver…
Original Story:
When Hideo Kojima turned 52 earlier this year, he swore he'd "never stop creating."
In other words, the well-documented split between the Metal Gear Solid creator and publisher Konami (which may have begun with a "power struggle" ) won't dissuade. the gaming mastermind.
And according to a new Nikkei report (with an updated translation from GameSpot ), Kojima's next step is to form a studio of his own. It seems other former Kojima Productions employees will join him on this new journey, and he's rumored to be in talks with Sony to bring his first game exclusively to the PlayStation platform. Or at least the game will debut on PS4; it might become multiplatform afterward.
Of course, as we all know by now, Konami owns the MGS rights, so Kojima will have to try something new. Not that that's a bad thing, though; the guy has been talking about spreading his wings and attempting drastically different projects for years. Well, now's the time.
By the way, yesterday, December 15, was officially Kojima's last day with Konami. Onward and upward!
If Sony is smart, they'll fund the project that Del Toro and Kojima were working on. Under a different name of course… 😉

The last fully directed game from Kojima was a multi-plat and multi-gen! And it still came out amazing. Think of the potential behind a full exclusive and fresh start!! Even if the best case scenario happened it still a longs ways away.
At Least we're not hearing rumors of M$ forking it over for him.
Whoa, I thought MS would pursue him due to Kojima being on MS's E3 conference a few times before.
Sony is one of the few company I expected to approach him along with Bethesda, Microsoft and Rockstar cause they are the few companies willing to spend huge money on a game.
But if it's Sony then it'd probably be a PS4 exclusive which means we're seeing something amazing in the making.
After how low MGSV sold on MS systems I doubt they care about Kojima at all and if X-Box owners really wanted to be taken seriously as consumer by Kojima they had a chance with MGSV and they didn't care, he should just focus on Sony systems imo.
Sony is an expected and natural fit for him.

MGSV sold badly on Xbox?
I didn't know. O_O
MS got him there the same way Sony got Gabe Newell to say PS3 would have the best version of Portal 2. Neither was happy to be there.
However, the statements from Gabe were not false. I'm not implying Kojima lied either. Just pointing out it was just a show for MS while Sony benefited from Gabe.
No certainly not false, but the man either had indigestion or was not happy eating crow.
Kojimas games have been Playstation exclusive up until more recently.
Although technically he started out on Nintendo….but Sony has been his main platform for all of the MGS games, Zone of the Enders, and others I'm forgetting.
Not exactly. MGS was remade for GameCube and the other MGS games besides 4 ended up on other platforms at some point. MGS4 was the only true Sony exclusive game of his. Even Zone of Enders ended up being released on X360.

Jawk, that was after Konami did some stuff though. Every one of the MGS games was a PS exclusive for a while, I think it was just Konami milking things knowing that Kojima was on the way out.
Either way it doesn't really matter, I think Sony is a good fit for his games, he tends to have grand visions usually. He just wont own the IP
Aaah yea.
Hopefully he already has a lot of ideas that's been bottled up inside ready to come out that Konami was too foolish to let him pursue.
Good luck to Mr. Kojima and his new company. I'm looking forward to seeing what he will do and I hope he impresses the sh*t out of me.

Well Metal Gear Solid is finished then – unfortunately because it was canned by KONAMI it wasn't COMPLETED leaving a PHANTOM PAIN within all of us – but hey, I'm looking forward to Sony producing Kojima – this is gonna be amazing.
Can't wait to see him back in the game developing!
Meh, the Phantom Pain was a full game as far as I'm concerned. That unfinished mission may have been fun but it would have just dragged an already resolved plot point. I've put nearly 700 hours into TPP and I'm still going. Can't complain about a game not being "complete" when I've gotten more fun time out of it than any other game I have ever played without starting a new game at this point.

Where do you find the time for that?
I don't sleep much these days. 😛
There's a video of this and Kojima looks so damn happy!
Just saw that. I couldn't be happier for him. I've always wanted to see him work directly with Sony either on Metal Gear or something entirely new. Christmas came early. XD
Agree, much better early Christmas present than ''The best line-up in Xbox history'', it would be kinda cool if Kojima and Naughty Dog collaborate at one point.
" It's official. Sony has released a statement and a short video confirming it is collaborating with Hideo Kojima and his newly formed studio Kojima Productions on a new title that will be a PlayStation 4 console exclusive."[eurogamer]
According to this statement from Sony it IS an exclusive.

Sony could probably use some of Kojima's help in bringing back Socom.
and in return he gets to do whatever the hell OGRE was.
This is very exciting.
I must never stop creating too.
Good on ya man! Kojima needed someone ELSE to cut the umbilical cord to Metal Gear Solid to unchain the man or he couldn't ever leave it be.
Join the light side of the force at Sony my friend!

When he signed my MGS4 copy he looked like a nice, laid back dude. The type of dude you can have a drink and talk life in a meaningful way. This is definitely great news.
Great news for Kojima, great news for Sony, and most of all, great news for Playstation's gamers!
And now is Kojima's chance to make that horror/survivor game he wanted to do.
hell yes
& PC*
Metallic equipment:dense
Smart move. Now we wait & C.
So does this mean that we won't be seeing another metal gear game?
I'm assuming Konami holds the rights to it or something, but would it be possible for Kojima to work on the next metal gear if he wanted to?
