Well, me, for one.

There was a time when I couldn't possibly imagine wanting Kingdom Hearts III more than a new Final Fantasy . But with that mess that is Lightning Returns looming on the horizon, and after seeing some sort of flashy action game posing as Final Fantasy XV , I think I'll take KHIII. At least it might still hold some semblance of role-playing. One can hope, anyway.

Of course, FFXV might as well. We don't have any actual gameplay details just yet but if Lightning Returns is any indication, the franchise will continue its decline into watered-down action/RPG rather than, you know, actual role-playing . The story was a definite weak point in Final Fantasy XIII-2 but at least it had a party . At least it felt a little like role-playing. Kingdom Hearts III will have a party, levels, and might just play like past entries.

And if that's the case, I'm down. I'm good with that. Kingdom Hearts II is still one of my favorite games on the PS2 (even though it wasn't a patch on Final Fantasy X , IMO). The unparalleled imagination of Disney combined with the production values of Square Enix typically results in a great product, although I never played the portable installments in the series. Like so many others, I've been waiting on a true sequel for consoles and now we're finally getting it. I've only one hope- That I can choose between a number of characters to be included in my permanent party.

What about you? Are you more psyched for KHIII than for FFXV?

Final Fantasy 15. I knew what to expect from Nomura with Versus 13. I always knew what to expect, so it being portrayed that way is not the issue with me. I love the way Noctis's battle animations look. Not to mention each character will have their own specialty. I just want the damn game already. Story, music, atmosphere, characters it has it all. I want a classic FF game where its turn based but this is Nomura, not the once noble man known as Kitase. Whose lost his damned mind saying that Lightning should be the star of every final fantasy game. Times change, and FF15 looks like its going to be one hell of a game, be it action or not. I feel it looked more like a game thats going to balance out everything, action, rpg, and exploration. The same way Kingdom Hearts does.

No chance, not unless I have the option to exclude the stupid Disney characters altogether.

It's funny, because Disney now owns a vast range of characters.

We may end up seeing worlds based on Marvel in KH3? Image going up against Thor or Iron Man.

EDIT: Damn, that actually sounds really cool. A world in KH3 based on Asgard. I could totally see it.

Then the game would basically be final fantasy…

I for one am very excited about KH3. I was a little surprised that they were bothering with an Xbox one version but oh well hopefully it will be good.

Ben, if FFXV had stayed FF Versus, would you still be hyped for it?

As Knightzane said, we have always known what to expect from Versus, so I personally only see it as a name change, which doesn't bother me, it's still the same game. But I do understand the implication that because it is now a main entry, will it dictate the format moving forwards? Squeenix should start varying it up on a per-game basis, XV is an action adventure style, then for XVI they could return to RPG again.

Personally, I am super hyped for both games, buuuuuut I am probably more excited for KH3 than FFXV. Only because we haven't had a console sequel since the PS2.

I need to scratch that itch damnit.

P.S They BETTER let us fight Sephiroth in KH3…. again 😀

Ben, Final Fantasy XV does have a party system.
And from the footage that I've seen (several times), towns seem to be explorable (judging by a huge city map shown in the gameplay video). It probably will have a leveling system too.

I'm more hyped for Kingdom Hearts 3, simply because I have a slight preference for Kingdom Hearts games over Final Fantasy. But I can't wait for both.
I agree that Versus should have stayed Versus. I was hoping for a more old school type of Final Fantasy in the next "numerical entry", but hey, guess not. XV looks great anyway.
I'm still not used to calling it XV though, it'll always be Versus XIII to me. lol

I'm basing this on what we've seen from Final Fantasy so far, more than anything else. If FFXV does turn out to be an actual RPG (and I'm not holding my breath), I could change my mind.

I haven't ever played a Kingdom Hearts game, so I want FF XV. If Kingdom Hearts III is more like an rpg, then I'd rather have it.

It's not really. It's an action game with RPG elements and your partners are controlled by the AI. KH 1&2 were great fun but I had a hard time getting into Birth by Sleep and the one on the 3DS.

The first time I picked up Kingdom Hearts I fell in love and I can't wait for KH3!!! But I also still wish FF could return to the glory of old…I just don't see that happening with the game plan S-E has been showing lately for it.

It's ironic to be more hyped for a game that we just saw a single video than one that we've seen 2-4 videos.

Like cLoudou said, we know what to expect from KH than from FFXV… I really hope FFXV delivers.

I never played KH, for some reason something about it turned me away from it, but I'm thinking about actually trying it out, my brother owns them so I can probably see if he will let me use them.

The same thing happened to me with the Zelda games at one point, until I decided to give it a shot and I fell in love with the Zelda games, I have the collection for Gamecube.

Will have to catch up on the KH games pronto.

In all honesty, I have never played a Final Fantasy game. I grew up with the Playstation, but never got the chance to play any of them. So, by default, I would want Kingdom Hearts III sooner. Though, I wouldn't mind trying FF XV. It looks like fun.

hell no!
firstly the darkness of versus, thus now XV, is exactly what drew me to it in the first place!
secondly KH has always been a great game, but a bit too kiddy and cheesy.
as a kid you love the wiggles and humphry b bear, but try watching those as a adult and you will want to blow your brains out!
just a bit too cheesy and stupid.
thirdly VX has been in development for what, 6 years?
KH3 no where near as long, and judging by $Es development cycles XV will be out a long, long, LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG time before KH 3 is!

Actually I wanted to blow my brains out while watching The Wiggles since I was a kid. I could watch Humphry any day, he is awesome.

P.S Pretty much 95% of people on this site have no idea what those things are.

What if you don't want either at this point? I know for sure that I'm not one bit excited about KH3 because I don't want to play with damned Disney characters. Allow me to play with any FF characters that I want in my own party and then I'll be excited (Squall, Auron, Zidane FTW). I just feel like they're more action adventure than they're RPGs and it just bothers me.

If I want to play an action RPG then I'll just play GOW or DMC not any of these titles. I would have been even more excited if they announced FF7 remake or even better FF8 remake… >_>

Bought a PS3 because I wanted to play MGS4, KHIII and MH3. Sadly, the latter two didnt make it this gen but the bright side is Disney now owns Star Wars and Marvel too I think so fingers crossed for a Luke Skywalker Spidey team up!

No I don't. Sorry as much as I loved the original games S-E utterly deraield the series by putting spin offs on 4 different portable consoles (GBA/DS/PSP/3DS). The story has just been impossible to follow unless your a die hard fan willing to pay for all these consoles.

If S-E cleans the series up and delivers a Kingdom Hearts 2.5 Remix HD edition – Which includes KH2, Birth By Sleep and Dream Drop Distance. I will then be able to forgive them and move onto Kingdom Hearts III but if not I will not follow the series any further than I have done.

I remember playing Kingdom Hearts II, skipping the GBA title Chain of Memories, missing vital story points in the series – Which lead me to be utterly confused all through out Kingdom Hearts II – Heck even the Organisation XIII was introduced in CoM. I never want to be mislead like that again.

Is it ok to be excited for both?

Versus (or XV now) despite being more action-orientated, seems to promise more RPG elements than the entire XIII series.

And KH3 needs no explanation. Fans have been waiting for the third main entry for a very long time now….excitement is to be expected 🙂

VampDeLeon

Definitely FFXV. Something about its setting and environment has a reminiscent feel to it, that I haven't seen in a while. But, I do enjoy both action-adventure and the original rpg genres, so the battle system doesn't bother me, thankfully.

While Kingdom Hearts is great with the difficulty, and all, it often gets too light-hearted for my taste with the cringing cheese at times in the story. I'll still get it, of course.

You know, I have to say something here-

In business, they always say that even the most passionate consumers are fickle. And there's evidence of that in this comment string.

When Lightning Returns was revealed, it was a 100% negative reaction across the board. EVERYONE hated it. So many were SO fast to swear off Final Fantasy and all future installments. I counted dozens of posts from gamers who did just that.

Now, one flashy trailer and the announcement of FFXV, and the majority are back on the bandwagon. It's not a BAD thing, though…I suppose that speaks to the unbridled optimism of a fan base that can't bear more disappointments.

I am, however, not all that fickle. 😉

VampDeLeon
VampDeLeon

Just part of that *magic* of Final Fantasy. You can love the series as a whole, but hate a few selected numbers of it.. For the majority here, it looks like it is the *unlucky* XIII out of the whole bunch.

I think because of how VersusXIII became an underdog after it's release being continually kicked back futher just for the sake of completing FFXIII's storyline with the spin-offs. It was exciting to know that the concept wasn't dead after all with that reveal and actual footage after so many years.

I think people who were looking forward to Versus XIII on the PS3 are happy its finally coming. The only reason I haven't written this title off while writing off the XIII sequels is because this game is being made by Nomura and his team.
