If you were hoping for a remastered or remade Mass Effect compilation, we have some bad news.
Although remakes and remasters are common in the video game industry these days, one publisher has zero interest in producing any such project.
Electronic Arts COO Peter Moore criticized the practice in a recent IGN interview , saying it "feels like pushing stuff out because you've run out of ideas." He further added:
"For a lot of companies, remakes are a way to drive revenue. It's sub-cost, it's an IP that's there, you can remaster, and that's great. We don't do that here. I don't think that’s ever been in our culture."
Hence, EA has no plans to do any HD remasters. Most other major publishers, including Sony, Microsoft and Capcom have been quite prolific at releasing collections of updated classic titles; we've seen the recently released Uncharted Collection (which Sony called a "system-selling" title ), the Borderlands: The Handsome Jack Collection , Resident Evil HD Remaster , and The Last Of Us: Remastered .
But Moore says EA is more about pushing forward…if you choose to buy that explanation.
He pretty much confirmed there won't be a Crysis Collection.
Bummer…………
Every EA game I owned has always been an one and done scnerio with the exception of Battlefield.
EA you don't have a classic to remaster.
Pretty much.
Yes they have, its called Dead Space…
Lol
Of course you guys don't. Instead you release unfinished games. Thats your culture.
That ok i'll just play Mass Effect, Crysis and Dead Space though the real version of backwards compatibility on my xbox 1 and not buy my games again on Ps4 though Ps Now.
This coming from the company that "remasters" the same game every season…er, I mean year?
Exactly what I was going to say!
It makes sense to remaster some console exclusive games and I mean games that didn't come out on pc, since, like I said, they're not on pc. PC games don't exactly need remastering as the point of these is to raise the quality settings.
That's too bad because Dead Space deserves to be remastered and remains the best survival horror series to date.
EA's choice, EA's loss.
Well, to me every sports title they release is virtually a remaster of the previous year's iteration. So they may not be doing what is considered a proper "remaster," but their business model, at least with the sports titles, is all about taking an older version of a game and updating it! Sure, some years bring true new improvements, but how many times do we see iterations with negligible improvements? Having said that, I'm not too keen on buying remasters, unless I never owned the original to begin with.
Consoles not having backwards compatibility is the main reason why remakes are important! It's not because makers have run out of ideas, It's because people want to continue to play their games on the newer consoles that keep completely changing their hardware and software formats over and over with every generation.
