Last week, Sony boss Shuhei Yoshida admitted the company was "surprised" by the positive reaction to Until Dawn , the PlayStation 4 exclusive.
Now, the developer that delivered this narrative-driven horror-fest says sales have exceeded internal expectations, and they are indeed thinking about a sequel.
In a new PlayStation LifeStyle interview , Suppermassive Games executive producer Pete Samuels didn't give an exact sales number, but he did say the game did better than anticipated. And even though it's "a little early" to go into detail, the team is considering the next step:
"We do talk internally about what Until Dawn 2 could be, as it clearly can't be a sequel in the traditional sense, with the same characters facing the same threat, not least of which because in different stories some or all of them are already dead!" he explained. "We've investigated other ways we could do Until Dawn 2 but it probably is a little early to be discussing that."
Even if Supermassive doesn't end up working on another Until Dawn game, you can bet their next project will benefit from the lessons they've learned, "whether it's in horror or in other genres."
We wondered if Until Dawn could become the next great PlayStation franchise , and our readers said the game in question turned out to be fantastic . Now, maybe Sony just needs to give Supermassive the green light…
