For those of you looking for a military open-world action RPG (that's a mouthful), Ubisoft has a new project for you.

It's Tom Clancy's The Division , which is described as a "groundbreaking online" experience for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. It's scheduled to launch some time next year.

Developed by Massive Entertainment, The Division takes place in New York three weeks after a deadly virus has swept through the metropolis. Basic services have failed, society is a mess and the president invokes Presidential Directive 51. That means a top-secret unit known simply as "The Division" must go into action. Usually, these self-supporting tactical agents leave normal lives but when things get nasty, they head off to work.

This is a Tom Clancy universe "dedicated to realism" and players can explore the once-familiar streets of NYC. You're never safe and the tension should be through the roof, as you'll push hard to survive. Said Ubisoft executive producer Fredrik Rundqvist:

"Our goal with Tom Clancy’s The Division is nothing short of completely changing the way people play online RPGs. “With the power of next-gen consoles behind it, The Division puts players in the middle of breathtaking, persistent multiplayer thriller in which they will explore, fight and work together as modern society collapses around them, all with the authenticity for which Tom Clancy’s games are renowned.”"

The Tom Clancy series of games has sold over 76 million games worldwide; another new title from the popular author will be Splinter Cell: Blacklist . For more on The Division , visit the game's official website .

Even though a military themed RPG isn't exactly top of my wish list, I'll support nearly *any* RPG that's not a cookie cutter fantasy-setting these days. So colour me interested!
