Many have been wondering if Sony would drop the price of PlayStation 4 this holiday season.

Well, they did…but only in Japan.

During Sony's Tokyo Game Show press conference, the company announced a price cut for PS4 in the Land of the Rising Sun. As of October 31, the cost of the console will be 34,980 yen, which means the price is now below $300 (about $292, to be exact).

This represents a price drop of approximately 12 percent, as the PS4 originally launched in Japan at a cost of about $334. All this being said, there's no word on whether or not Western territories will see a similar price cut. Chances are, we won't, as the system in question has performed exceedingly well in Western markets and in fact, the console's weakest region might be Japan.

Perhaps this move is to erase the weak link and rejuvenate PS4 interest. Either way, don't expect the price of the console to fall in North America any time soon.

A $299 PS4 would seal the XBox1 coffin in western markets, but I doubt we would see that price anytime soon.
Maybe $349.99 for the holidays?

There have already been several PS4 deals for $350 the past few months. I'm expecting a $300 deal this fall. But yet I think the PS4 will have a regular price of $350 by the start of next year.
