In the minds and hearts of many, Metal Gear Solid will always be a PlayStation franchise.
The legendary franchise began its life (not referring to the original Metal Gear back in the old days here) on the original PlayStation and various installments have enjoyed exclusive or timed exclusive releases on later Sony platforms.
Therefore, it stands to reason that most MGS fans are also PlayStation fans, and we're seeing that fact reflected in some early reports. According to Eurogamer , 72 percent of MGSV copies were sold on PS4, while only 22 percent were sold on Xbox One (3 percent on PS3 and 2 percent on Xbox 360). Furthermore, we're finding that MGSV is pushing PS4 sales in Japan . Of course, MGS has always been wildly popular in Japan (and the Xbox brand most certainly has not) but even so, it's a good sign for Sony followers.
There's no doubt that the latest Metal Gear Solid release is a big boon for PS4 sales, and it almost certainly won't have the same affect on Xbox One sales overall, so it doesn't act like your typical multiplatform game. No, it's more like PS4 has another exclusive, even if it's not really true. And that's great because PS4 doesn't have any other high-profile exclusives on tap for the holiday season.
