Dark Souls creator Hidetaka Miyazaki has some new plans for the future.

We know the third entry in the venerated action/RPG franchise is just around the corner, but what will happen after? Miyazaki partially tackled that question during a recent GameSpot interview .

He first called Dark Souls III a "turning point" in the franchise, and it will "pave the way for something new." When asked if he'd pursue the possibility of a sci-fi theme for the series, he replied that he'd "definitely want to bring the Miyazaki touch" to the games. Don't forget that while developer From Software is well known for the likes of Demon's Souls , Dark Souls and Bloodborne , the team has a past rooted in mechs and sci-fi. Armored Core , anyone?

And now that Miyazaki is president of From Software, he intends to launch "several new projects," even though he's silent on the details for the time being. How would a Dark Souls mixed with Mass Effect work…?

Anyway, Dark Souls III is scheduled to launch for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC early next year.

I really like what I see from DS3. It looks faster and more agile focused. I like that.

I also heartily welcome a sci-fi offering from him.

Yes this is very welcome. Demons Souls (my favorite) and Dark Souls 1/2 were definitely great games. Dark Souls 2 became a little generous with stamina compared to those first two games, but Bloodborne changed the game altogether. I don't know if I could go back to the slower pace, but DS3 looks like turn for the better.

I love sci-fi, so I'm excited for the that too

Now, why'd you have to go and open old wounds by mentioning Armored Core? I highly doubt that FromSoft will be putting another one out until just before the next generation of consoles releases. And if they do let Miyazaki lead it, like he's hinted at, it'll probably turn out to be like 4th gen, and that's not necessarily a good thing.

But, whatever. I'll take 5th gen as the grand exit, if a return to 4th gen is the future of the series. (Maybe the new Front Mission won't be a steaming pile?)

At least we'll always have Souls. I wonder how long it'll be, before Activision tries to buy into that cash cow…

I want them to reboot the Tenchu franchise. People have the patience to play stealth games these days, what with Dishonoured doing so well.

I would really like to see From Soft bring that series back into the mainstream.
