Report: All PS4 Games Must Support Remote Play For Vita

Sony has made it plain that they will stick with the PlayStation Vita. And the PlayStation 4 can help promote the portable.

According to a Digital Foundry report , Sony requires that developers making PS4 games must include support for the Vita's Remote Play feature.

The only games that don't have to adhere to this mandate are those that utilize the PlayStation Eye. This info comes from a "trusted PlayStation 4 developer source with a proven track record," so it's probably reliable. And if it's true, this could really improve the Vita's library, which many consumers have been hoping for. Remote Play on PS4 is more efficient than it was on PS3, too, as developers can use the function without making sacrifices based on the speed of their software.

We'll certainly learn more about the PS4 at E3 in a few weeks.

Was it said that Gaikai won't be available at launch? I'm experiencing an amnesiac episode at the moment.

Well the remote play feature they are talking about is about using the Vita to play games around your home.

I'm pretty sure anyway.

I like the sound of that, might end up getting a ps4 sooner than I thought.

This might just be that extra push the Vita needs. I can see myself getting me a Vita cause of this. Indeed I can.

Also, now things start to look interesting: Maybe it's not the Microsoft console who will be Sonys main competitor next generation… But Valves new console? Hear me out:

Nvidias Shield handheld supports remote play from all machines with Nvidia chipsets. Valves Steambox is practically guaranteed to feature Nividia chipsets. Ergo the Steambox+Shield will be Valves equivalent to Sonys PS4+Vita combo.

It is also extremely likely that the Steambox will at least match the PS4 in performance, and just as likely be designed with a clear focus on gaming – just like the PS4. Ergo, maybe a more close competitor to the PS4 than the Xbone seems to become.

I know, we know far too little yet, but this scenario is at least not completely unthinkable.

At least a steambox would be a competitor for the hearts of gamers instead of MS's hub for mouth-breathers.

Yeah I totally agree, World.

Difference is, Nvidia's shield is going to be $349.

Can't see neither competing with Sony sales wise

I think the Steambox will be costly too – I expect it to be the most expensive console of the three.

I fully expect the PS4 to be the winner counted in number of units pushed. The cheapest gets the largest market share. Wii outsold everything else this gen.

But this is more about who's the "spiritual competitor". This gen that's been the X360. Next gen? It might be the Steambox.

This is awesome! I would like to get more excited, but some details and confirmation would be nice. Wonder how the developers feel about this?
Wasn't google going to jump in with there pseudo console? If Beam is right maybe google's ?Anvil Next?…? will compete with the Xbone while the PS4 and Steambox dual it out.

I wonder, how many developers/publishers will actually go for this. I'm sure Sony has it figured out but since the VITA is actually another console will devs want more money since people have another access point for their games? Just thinking of the technicalities. I just want this gen to go smoothly for Sony. We endured quite alot from many sides this current gen.

Developers need to do little to nothing to support Remote Play for PS Vita.

In fact, all developers have to do is to supply a PS Vita controller lay-out alongside the DualShock 4 controller lay-out.

I'm really, really happy to hear this because man, I'm still bitter about Vita's remote play with PS3 and the unabashed false advertising Sony showed off prior to the Vita launch. They even removed it from the feature list on the official website… AFTER the Vita launch… not cool Sony, not cool.

Remote play was a major selling feature for me. It's probably the biggest reason I pre-ordered the early bird Vita bundle. In the end, all we got was a port of the crappy PSP remote play functionality with virtually no games supporting it.

So yes, good job Sony. I am thrilled to hear this news, though my reaction is less like "Wow, cool!" and more like "It's about f***ing time!"

Though, there might be a major loophole in this plan. The developer might be able to implement an otherwise useless PS Eye feature, that nobody will use or care about, but since it's part of the game it might excuse them from the mandatory remote play support.

Wow… that was an especially negative post for me. For the record; I love my Vita, I love my PS3, and I'm sure I'll love my PS4.

I'm feeling the same, I love my Vita but it is glaringly obvious that with remoteplay, something happened. We went from Killzone 3 being playable to… Roughly the same capabilities as the PSP and treatment from Sony. With unofficial ways proving that at even the current level it's possible to do more with the firmware.

Yes, yes and more yes. If it works as well as the Wii U gamepad, this going to be such an awesome feature. It's hard to explain exactly WHY the extra screen is so much fun, but trust me, it really is useful. I can step out on my balcony and play New Super Mario Bros. U, or Super Metroid, or whatever, and enjoy the weather and the fresh air while I play. then go back inside, back to the big screen. Then into bed when my girlfriend falls asleep before I do. It really is fun!

I'm sure remote play means local remote play — at least, I assume so for the time being — but man, this all but seals the deal for me I'll be getting a PS4 at or near launch to compliment my Vita. Nice work, Sony.

whats that?
$ony actually made something MANDATORY!?
*faints*
wakes up, rolls over, sees story, and faints again.
FINALLY!
$onys biggest bane is that there so f*cking pussyfooted when it comes to features within the system, so 99% of games dont support them because there not required.
if you leave it up to the developers, of course there not going to utilize it thats just more work for them!
bout f*cking time they grew some balls and sat down and said no you need to use this, come on its really cool and useful!
cry, never thought id see the day!!!!!!

what would be cool though is if you could use it when your out of the house even.
now that would be SWEET!
never going to happen because mobile internet is just far too slow, but one day maybe…..
need to have remote downloads too, let us access PSN on our mobiles and pick and choose something to download, than as long as the ps4 is hooked up to the net, you can hook up to your ps3, check your messages, see whos doing what, than send over all the crap you just bought and it starts downloading it.

Hopefully remoteplay will be extended even more. No not extended, returned because lets be honest, this is a feature which we should've had much more of at launch.

Music unlimited support, ANY media able to be viewed and more as well. For too long it has been held back for no reason. I expected more just for the psp, before a new console iteration no less. Singstar connectivity has pretty much been the high point in useful additions and that was awhile ago.
