What Can Microsoft Do To Make You Want The Xbox One?

It seems clear now that few actually intend to purchase the Xbox One right out of the gate. Definitely few around here at PSXE, which makes sense.

In general, though, things haven't gone well for Microsoft over the last week or so. So here's the question- We're all gamers, right? We all have ideas. We all know what we want. We all basically know what Microsoft did terribly wrong when unveiling the Xbox One. Now you don't want one. But what can be done to make you want one in the future…?

Some people are apparently so bitter about this mess that they've sworn off Microsoft completely. We've had more than a few people sign up at PSXE, saying they were once admitted hardcore Xbox fans, but they just couldn't believe what they saw when the Xbox One was announced. They've switched teams and they're not looking back. Other people are trying to be a bit more patient and objective; they're waiting to hear a little more and above all else, they want to hear about more games. There are a few promising ones, after all, and several more could be revealed at E3. And I honestly hope that happens.

So, would that do it? A few more high-profile, totally awesome-looking Xbox One exclusives? Or would Microsoft have to rescind a few of their planned programs and policies? For instance, it seems possible that Sony has axed their own DRM plans after the consumer backlash. So maybe Microsoft can do something similar and reclaim lost loyalty. Or perhaps you'll conclude that you don't mind a few of the restrictions and mandates quite as much as you thought. Like I said, we're all gamers, so what can Microsoft do? Is it already over or can they win you back?

Sell the Xbox One at $100 would do it.

It would still have to provide a service worth the $100 to me, as it sits now, I haven't seen anything I'm willing to pay even $100 for.

I would do it for an 80$ Gears of War bundle. I figure it would give my PS4 and PC the occasional heat break on long gaming binges.

Having an XBox One replace my current cable box, not simply accessorize it, would get me interested.

No matter how many features you put into a game console, it's useless to me.
I bought a game console to play games, not to socialise or anything else.
Only way to convince me to buy a XONE is to get rid of the DRM.
Oh, and that's only the first small simple step.
The next step, is to have more exclusives.
And I'm not a fan of the Kinect, not one bit so they better not shove tons of Kinect games down our throat.

Easy for me.

1. Free Online Play
2. Gran Turismo Exclusive to the Xbox One

Same here… It would take Gran Turismo to move me to the XBone.

Nothing Xbox can do to make me want one. Have been a Playstation user since the very first PS1 through to PS3 & Vita and has never let me down in quality of the console and games available 😀

Admitingly, I was never a "hardcore" xbox nut but I gave them a shot with the 360. Didn't really like it but didnt hate it. Their reveal conference turned me off completely. I'm ok w multimedia features and what not…but don't shove them down my throat
You're a gaming console…w the little amount of time you had, I expected games to be showcased. They mostly showed multiplatform games…umm yea ok. exclusives…they showed quantum break…forza…maybe I'm missing one. That's 2-3 of their 1 (i think) exclusives.
I wasnt impressed in the least bit from what I saw. They really are gonna have to bring their A+ game at e3 to get my to get a xb1

Honestly if they offered traditional turn based RPGs with world maps and engaging characters/storylines I'd forgive them for all the bloatware cluttering up the XboxOne.

But that's never going to happen so ya…

– At least 4 AAA new non-FPS narrative-based exclusives within the first year (I'm that strict because Sony has spoiled me lol.)
– No "always online"
– less than $250

I'd prefer free online access, too, but I don't play multiplayer often, so that's not a deal-breaker for me.

Over time M$ has made it so non-Xbox Live subscribers get even less. Like early game demos, and "free" apps that only work for gold members.

Exclusives that would be to my taste on a regular basis, no kinect required, no online requirements, price point worth what I'm getting, the ability to turn off voice command/always on feature.

So much would have to change it's just more likely that I will pass, I still don't have a 360 because there just aren't enough games to warrant putting down that much cash.

Nothing the Xbox has, or will ever have, is enough for me to waste my valuable money on buying that console.

I would never get an Xbox Live account, but you know what, I have had PSN+ for a year or so now, I am a yearly subscriber, and I LOVE it, I'm never going back, it is totally worth the money I pay for it.

If they have exclusives but the best ones ever. Which is unlikely, I mean look at XBL and the way it has become with that advertisement and the press conference was only more proof. It seems they don't want to compete with Sony but instead Apple or any other that warrants these type of features. Even with those so called 15 exclusive they won't win me over due to the absurd direction there taking a game console, it is trying to be my cable box. I rather just stick to Sony and PC. At least Sony has all the JRPG and have gotten more realistic on what a game console should be.

I'm sold, remember when I told you guys that I HOPED Microsoft's new console was entertainment driven? well, I got what I wanted. Ps4 for gaming and Xbox for all my movies, TV shows, HBOGo, etc. I'm pretty sure that's just 1/4 of what the new Xbox can do, come E3, they will show what it can do. I see the reveal as an introduction. I'm getting both consoles, at one point or another.

I'm sure M$ will lose big with people in rural areas that don't have a reliable high speed Internet connection, or no Internet at all.

We'll have to see how the coverage is with cable/satellite providers, but I doubt that will reach all the people that want it.

Question Killa. If the PS4 were able to do all of those things you requested, would you still want/need an XOne?

I am sure the PS4 is capable of such things.

For me it's the same story as the current gen. I got a PS3 on day 1 because I know they would support it with games. I only got a 360 when Halo 3 came out. As of now I have over 50 PS3 games and about 10 360 games. If M$ can show me some outstanding exclusives that aren't all shooters, and have absolutely nothing to do with Kinect, then I might get one someday.

Right now I plan to get a PS4 on day one. They have proven to me that they want to bring me an amazing gaming experience FIRST, then social and multimedia options if I want them.

Make it so I don't need to be online to use it. Or like a cheaper one that just plays games, no kinect or any restrictions. And games I want to play.

Then again, a good Banjo Threeie would be tempting.

No DRM. Thats all for now. Not saying im going to buy an Xbox One, day one, but i feel like most people who says that they wont get an Xbox is because they are Sony loyalists and wont admit that the consoles are almost the same. You buy an console for the games, and both obviously plays them. Exclusives is what makes you pick which system you want, and maybe which system most of your friends got. Atleast thats how I judge which system I get 1st. In my case most of my friends got and will be sticking to xbox. PS4 D1P, One sometime later as long as they get rid of the bullshyt add-on costs.

I would like to get an Xbox One in a couple years, but what I want to see before I get it:

No Live Gold subscription fee.

Exclusives that aren't just shooters or Kinect only games.

Sub-$400 price.

NO DRM, EVER.

@Killa,

My intentions for getting one in a couple years were pretty clear to read in my original comment, I don't get how you drew the conclusion you did.

Those are just a few of the features I want/hope to see happen sometime in the future, just in case you needed further clarification.

I've noticed that you have been quite a lot more negative and critical on most every article here recently, almost to Blank Line's standards.

What gives, are you trying to fill the void of negativity left in the wake of Highlander's absence in the article comments area as of late???

No, I don't know what happened to Highlander, I had just observed that based on what it would take for you to get an Xbox One, it looks like it will never happen. Every time Microsoft opens its big mouth regarding Xbox One information, the system seems less and less attractive.

what can M$ do to get me to buy a xbox one?
well they can release remedy from their clutches, let them go third party, maybe published by take 2, and ill be sending them weekly checks!
no, seriously, to have such a brilliant talented studio owned by M$ is just the biggest injustice in the history of the world!
we NEED alan wake 2 god dam it!!!!!!!

Include the basic Foxtel package in Australia with a Gold subscription to Xbox Live and I'm sold. FOX 8, Comedy Channel, Showcase, Channel V, Fox Sports and Discovery, and I will buy an Xbox One.

Very little I want on the games front. Hopefully the new Remedy exclusive will be good. Shame Rare has become a lame Kinect minigames developer now, damn shame.

A new Halo, Gears or Forza does not interest me. If Fable can return to its core RPG adventure roots with no Kinect nonsense, I MIGHT consider an Xbox One for that.

Jed

If the Xbone comes with a gold subscription it will probably only be for new Iive accounts. Unless things are as bad for them at launch as they are now after that horrible reveal.

But then again, even if things are still as bad for them, I don't see them admitting it with an offer like that.

JROD0823

@Dance,

I agree, Rare is a sad, pathetic, miserable shell of its former self.

How can you go from making some of the very best games in gaming history early in your Studio's career with games like Wizards & Warriors, Battletoads, and my personal favorite, Donkey Kong Country, to making a game as mediocre as Kinect Sports???

Oh yeah, you get bought by a soulless corporate giant like Microsoft and lose every ounce of your imagination and innovative game creation abilities.

Rare was one of the few second party studios that made Nintendo games that were worth anything outside of its first party studio stable, and I lost most of my interest in any Nintendo console after they were snatched up by Microsoft.
