I've met some fans of this franchise. They are, without a doubt, avid .

And they'll be happy to hear that NeocoreGames has announced Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor – Martyr for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.

According to IGN , it's set to release some time next year and the game is described as a "persistent sandbox action/RPG." Even after finishing the campaign, the narrative will continue to unfold via that "colossal sandbox," which should result in "years of constant entertainment." Of course, you can expect continued support in the form of DLC as well.

Just so you know, NeocoreGames is working with Warhammer license-holder Games Workshop. So, as producer Zoltan Pozsonyi tells the loyal followers, don't worry:

"There's a reason why we chose the world of Warhammer 40,000: it's intense, brutal, visceral—a perfect material for an action RPG. We're huge fans as well, so we care deeply about this game."

And here's the first teaser trailer:

While I'm interested in any video game with the 40K brand, especially the more RPG-ness there is, I wish someone would give us a game where we could play some of the evil armies rather than always being the goodie-to-shoes time and time again.

You could play them in Dawn of War 1, and technically in the chaos expansion for DoW 2.
Unfortunately there they penalized you every time you used some evil gear, and the evil ending was basically just you being told you shouldn't have been so naughty.

Is the "40,000" still necessary?

It would be a bit more manageable if they called it what everybody else does: 40k Inquisitor.

They have to have it somewhere for people to distinguish it from warhammer fantasy battles (aka Fantasy), or at least for people who are outside of the current fan base that aren't familiar with what an Inquisitor does in the background.

Gotta get those new customers, GW is struggling financially in the shareholders' eyes.

I stopped trusting GW's naming capability when they changed what was the Imperial Guard for 20 years to Astra Militarum and Militarum Tempestus.
