The Last Of Us is widely regarded as one of the greatest video games ever made.

But did you know that Naughty Dog's masterpiece, which ended up winning countless awards, was a point of major concern for the developers?

In the latest Conversations with Creators episode , co-director Bruce Straley was asked if the team thought TLoU would rise to great heights. In fact, Straley said: "We thought it was going to tank." Worse than that, he thought the studio's reputation would be tarnished forever:

"We thought we were going to ruin the name and image [of Naughty Dog] that's been so heartily built for years with blood, sweat, and tears. We thought we were ruining Naughty Dog's image."

The game's other director, Neil Druckmann, added that the dark joke throughout production was, "this game is the downfall of Naughty Dog." Heck, they thought they'd be "lucky to scrape by with an 85 on Metacritic" because it just "wasn't coming together." It wasn't until the end of development that they started to feel a bit more hopeful.

And look at the result.

This game was the closest to a perfect game any game I have played so far can get.

I was sorta hoping some of the melee combat would spill over into future ND games.

Just got the remastered version for ps4. Put a lot of hours in the original MP. Doing the same on the remastered, one of the best games for sure

I have to agree with Jawknee… The Last of Us was a game that emotionally challenged me throughout my 20 plus hours I sunk into it.

A video game has never done that to me.

The feels man. Just played TLOU Left Behind recently and it reminded me how well Naughty Dog made me feel so connected to the characters and atmosphere.

Top three of any genre I've ever played.

Immediately became my first Platinum this year. It booked my PS4 disc bay for two whole weeks.

Please Naughty Dog make more doubtful games that may bring your downfall.
