Two amazing things happened during Sony's E3 2015 press conference, and we all know what they are.

Yeah, The Last Guardian 's triumphant return and Sony wrestling Call of Duty DLC exclusivity away from Microsoft were pretty huge. But nothing compared to the announcements for Shenmue 3 and the Final Fantasy VII Remake .

We're talking about two projects die-hard fans have been hoping to see for over a decade. Having both announcements at the same show, in the same conference, just felt impossible. And yet, it happened. Now, I'm just wondering: Where are the excitement levels for each game? I think everyone will probably agree that the FFVII Remake is possibly more hyped and anticipated overall, but it'd be a mistake to underestimate the size and fervor of the Shenmue faithful.

On top of which, it's worth noting that Shenmue 3 feels like it will actually happen, while few are convinced they'll see anything concrete for FFVII Remake in the next year (if ever). Maybe that dampens the spirits somewhat. But if you had to take a litmus test of the anticipation levels for both projects right now, I wonder how they'd read…

Shenmue III. I've already played FFVII and Square is gonna butcher the remake.

Shenmue 3 for the following reasons…
1. Shenmue 1 holds a bigger place in my gamer heart than FF7
2. I like the characters more
3. The setting is more my taste
4. I probably won't be able to play FF7 remake but my grand kids will.

FFVII.

It'll be amazing. You'll all see. Sure… it'll be released on the PS5, but still.

Shenmue 3 because it is the continuation of a story and I really want to know what happens!

I liked FF7 but it wasn't my favourite PSX era Final Fantasy that goes to number 9.

Stole every word right from my mouth 😛 The notion that Were finally getting a continuation to Shenmue 3 is what makes this a much bigger deal. A Final Fantasy VII remake is a luxury, but getting Shenmue 3 in terms of gaming is a necessity! If we can really get this game after 14+ years I'll just be ever so thrilled.

I really hope people here have contributed to the Kickstarter campaign, it's only got 3 days left now and really could do,with the support. You can even get a Psycial copy on PS4. If anyone chooses Shenmue out of this battle they really should be backing up the KS. I've put as much as I can and gone for the $175 aetbook bundle (wh oh includes everything on offer under that price too). I may be broke for the next two weeks but it's for a very good cause.

I cant believe you even compared the 2. FF 7 sold more on day one than Shenmue did it's whole life cycle. Watch the sales when the two games come out. Watch the hype. Again, I just cant believe this article.

It's like trying to compare the hype of Uncharted vs FF 7. You could add the hype of the entire Uncharted series and it would not even come to 1/5 of the hype power of a FF 7.

1. It's an excitement battle not a "hype" battle
2. Just because item X sells more than item Y doesn't make it any better (GTA5 sold more than FF7)
3. I am surprised that you even read articles, I thought you always posted without reading

He didn't ask which franchise was more popular, or which will sell better. He asked which one readers are more excited about. As you can see, plenty of people here are more excited about Shenmue, so that should clue you in as to why he asked.

Funny thing, I had both Shenmue 1&2 on DC, and FF7 on Playstation, but… I played neither of them.

But of the two now, I'd probably go with Shenmue 3 as the one I'll play.

Shenmue 3 is simply more significant. The story was left unfinished, abandoned at a major cliffhanger.

I expect a general aura of gratitude from fans after Shenmue 3 arrives. I expect those who weren't part of the Shenmue scene from the start will think it sucks.

Whereas I expect good levels of complaining and whining from the FFVII camp through out it's whole existence, the majority of which coming from the fans of the original game.

Overall it's obvious there's more people who want FFVII Remake seeing that it was a popular game on a popular console. Shenmue was a popular game on a dying console.

I like 'Final Fantasy VII' more than either 'Shenmue.' But I worry about what Square Enix will do with the former property, whereas I really believe that Suzuki is passionate about the latter.
So I'm more interested in 'Shenmue III' right now, but I'd love Square Enix to wash away my doubt.

I think it's important to go in keeping in mind it's basically just a new title in the FFVII universe. I will be reminding myself that they aren't doing anything to it. The original will always exist.

The fact that I never played FF7 means the remake will be fresh and new to me, but like everyone is saying, "It will probably come out on the ps5."

I was a broke kid when the dreamcast came out. So I was still making do with the Sega Genesis. It'll be nice for the fans, but neither holds any nostalgic value to me.

FF7 for me. It defined my childhood. It's still my favourite game to this day, even though I've started playing it and loved it decades ago.

Shenmue, for the most part, is unfamiliar territory for me.
