Shenmue creator Yu Suzuki has big plans for the beloved franchise.
And he's going to need considerable cash to ensure his vision becomes a reality.
As most of you know by now, the Shenmue III Kickstarter campaign began during E3 and has since racked up a whopping $3.5 million with 25 days still remaining. But Suzuki might need every one of those days. During a recent Reddit interview , he talked numbers. First:
"I will say this. If we reach the $5 million mark, one of the things I really want to do with Shenmue 3 will become a reality."
But Suzuki added that the game will only "truly have the features of an open-world" experience if they reach the $10 million mark, which is indeed a long ways off. He didn't go into detail concerning these features but he did talk about some Stretch goals, which includes additional towns and extra side activities.
"There will be part time jobs that will be indicative of those you would find in China. In the Stretch goals there will also be the old favorites."
Lastly, Suzuki said he'd also like to do another game, as he originally planned for there to be four or five entries in the series. In order to complete the original 11-chapter story, he'd need to go into a fourth installment.
And I doubt anyone would complain.
