Batman: Arkham Knight Requires 45GB

Yeah, it's a big game.

But gamers this generation are used to large file sizes, right? It should be no surprise to learn that Batman: Arkham Knight requires 45GB of space on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.

The number can be found on the PlayStation Store, Xbox Marketplace and Steam, so we have to assume it's correct. The good news is that the new systems make it a little easier to install and play games; first and foremost for me is the fact that installations don't take very long, and you can start playing before they're completely done. It makes uninstalling and re-installing games much less daunting as well.

That being said, lots of people still want Sony to announce a PS4 model with a bigger hard drive. And we just might see new version with a 1TB hard drive in the near future.

I'm pretty dang sure it says 48.5GB on PSN, but still.

That's called jamming the disc full.
Even the massive Witcher 3 is only like 35GB. Bloodborne and Order 1886 are around 30GB, with Drive Club only at around 20GB (that's with many expansion packs too)

There really aren't a whole lot of console games outside of a Naughty Dog game that max the disc out.

I suspect the game has a lot of high bit-rate video (Naughty Dog's trick) to mask load times. That's my guess anyway.

What were people expecting when they complained about the 360 only having DVD's as a storage medium?

Consoles might be powerful, but they ain't got the kind of power to de-compress stuff on the fly like the 360 did. I'm not saying the 360 is more powerful than the current gen, But that's what needed to do to compensate for the lack of storage space.

Can't wait to play this, but may personally wait for the GOTY version. Too many RPGs to contend with.

So far the game with the biggest footprint I own is The Evil Within. After all the patches and DLC its over 60gb. My drive is over 517 at the moment.

I read that the city is supposed to be evacuated or something. Kind of disappointing. I was hoping Gothem would be more alive than in the last two games.

It takes 5 seconds to switch out the PS4 hard drive.

Just buy 2Tb, so you'll have breathing room until higher capacity is available.

Everyone should be able to do this, if you got money for it.
One trick I did was to buy a 2Tb Portable HDD took it out of the casing and swapped it with the original 500 Gb from the PS4. It was cheaper for me this way some how.

It is weird how portable HDDs are cheaper than their internal counterparts.
