E3 could be huge for Sony, especially if God of War developer Sony Santa Monica wows the crowd.

The studio has put up a cryptically leading Tweet : "4 weeks to E3…" They haven't released any information on their new project, but a few job listings might give us a hint.

There's a senior combat designer position available, but it doesn't sound like the team is working on a new God of War , because they're asking for experience in making first- or third-person shooters. It would also help if you've designed vehicle combat in the past, so… Furthermore, CVG spotted a job listing that wanted someone with experience creating "open-world games," although that position has since been removed. They probably found someone.

So what are they going to unveil come E3? Their last game was God of War: Ascension , which was great, but sorta showed that we should maybe move on. Can you imagine if we could add a launch title from Sony Santa Monica to the list of PS4 launch titles…? Hell, I'm in.

I'd like to see Santa Monica do something new that doesn't require them to stay traditional to an existing franchise.

I do want to see GoW continue on. Ascension's multiplayer made for a better combat system in single player, the devs took it's action more seriously, and I'd like to see the series continue to try and go deeper with it's play and be less concerned about pleasing the more general gamers who want 'something new and fresh, by way of content, to make it worth their time. It may mean less overall popularity and sales but it would be more the kind of game I'd want and value over the long haul.

They did build a whole extraneous game around this new multiplayer and then say that "Kratos still has life left in him" so GOW will probably continue. Although the trend seems to be that when a franchise is tapping out it gets passed to a lesser team so it could go to someone else within Sony.

I wouldn't mind them swapping Kratos out for like some chick who is as fierce as heck. Do we have many female protagonists like that? I know female Sheppard can be a real meanie, and gamers really seem to like her for that. It seems to me that could be a good fit for GoW.

That would be amazing, there are so many stories in Greek mythology where a tough chick full of rage could be written into the framework.

lady would just be wrong, kratos attitude and anger suits the game.
imagine a chick ripping a guys head off, gouging out a guys eyeballs, gutting a gigantic cyclopes, getting swallowed by one giant mother %$#@%^ then slicing through his gut from the inside and bursting out in triumph!
no…….. just NO!

I dunno. I'm thinking Jaffe is a little overrated, personally. It would seem his last several projects aren't anything special and Santa Monica probably doesn't need him to do something big.

I honestly believe that Santa Monica could stay with God of War as long as they changed the game to a degree.

Open the world up, give us some side quests, allow the player to customize Kratos. I know it sounds like an RPG, but it could work.

I dunno about all that but it needs a huge update, still plays like a PS2 game.

I'm curious as to what PS2 game you have in mind that compares to the nuanced combat and puzzle-platforming in GoW: Ascension. If Ascension is a PS2 game, what would you consider DmC?

GOW is far too good a franchise to end just yet!
plus the ending of GOW3 just DEMANDS a sequel!
but maybe thats best saved for a few years into the ps4s life, lets see a new IP from the big boys first.
just one rule.
NO F*CKING SHOOTERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
