Some developers claim they're already pushing the boundaries of the new consoles.
But others say PlayStation 4 and Xbox One have a long way to go, and designers will really have to work to tap into each system's full capabilities.
One such developer is Mobeen Fikree from Vertex Pop Games, who told GamingBolt that the current benchmarks of 1080p and 60fps could indeed change in the future. But development is always about balance:
"I think people like to latch on to 'objective' technical figures, but honestly, 60fps/1080p is just the starting point. There’s a host of subtle features that matter so much more. I spent an inordinate amount of time implementing and iterating on the camera behaviour, screen shake effects, visual feedback systems, animation tweening, player movement, and so much more. These are all very technical, but subjective features. They can’t be measured, but can make or break a game just as easily."
In regards to the PS4 and Xbox One, Fikree says they're both "absurdly powerful," reaching the 1080p/60fps plateau actually is "pretty straightforward." Perhaps the next step will involve even more technical accomplshments and maybe then, this generation's console war will seem a lot less boring .
We need more 666fps games!
and 7777p!
Yesss…
Well duh. We know our visual fidelity isn't the whole thing.
Yeah. This guy doesn't sound as hopeful as I thought he'd be.
sure but people do really like it though
They aren't 'absurdly powerful' but muuuch stronger than PS3 gen. Can sort of imitate just-above average PCs.
Bring on the efficient and more bug free games development!
This dude and his studio have released exactly one game, which is just a 2D Geometry Wars ripoff that flopped hard. Not exactly an authority on graphical fidelity. Of course it's easy to hit 1080/60 in games like that. When actual studios with legit track records have a hard time doing it, though, I'd say that is much more indicative of the actual potential of these machines.
When Naughty Dog says 1080/60 is a challenge, I believe them, because Naughty Dog has consistently produced the best looking (and some of the best playing) console games of the past 6 years.

yea but even if you think he doesnt know everything…. perhaps look at his resume… who knows where hes worked before or what hes done. Its obviously worth noting anything he says if people take the time to do an article about it.
Also to note… ND has high standards ever since uncharted launched. They try to pack in ALOT of stuff, and to achieve it at 60fps for sure is a challenge which is why they are considering 30fps for thiefs end. But time will tell, and we need more info. Dont be quick to judge

Are we sure he didn't mean "absurdly powerful for the kind of games we make"?
yeah i'm sure some devs are finding it that hard but i know i can't be that straight forward for everyone but we'll have to wait and see what everyone wil do on the dev cycle as these years come and go where will we go from here will be interesting to see
happy gaming
