Update: Looks like we should've been concerned. Konami has confirmed the cancellation of the Silent Hills project.

Damn.

Original Story:

Horror fans might have reason to be concerned.

Many were anticipating the new Silent Hills project, especially after that exceedingly well-received – and decidedly freaky – "P.T."

Unfortunately, the game appears to be in trouble. Konami recently announced that the "P.T." demo would be removed from the PlayStation Store this week and not long after, photojournalist Matt Hackney posted a Guillermo del Toro quote on Twitter :

Now, less than an hour ago, Hackney said he apologized for the confusion this Tweet caused, saying he was just quoting "funny lines" he heard from del Toro at a recent event, which must mean Silent Hills isn't outright canceled, right?

Even so, that Tweet has caused a firestorm of questions, and it doesn't help that "P.T." is disappearing this week. Nor does it help that Kojima and Konami's apparent separation was big news not long ago.

What does all this mean for the future of Silent Hills …?

del Toro's assistant Ian Gibson confirmed it on Twitter:

"Get the P.T. while you can! It will keep you warm at night dreaming of the Superhero team up that almost was"

Then followed by Norman Reedus:

"Super bummed about this was really looking forward to it. Hopefully it'll come back around. Sorry everyone (link to article on Silent Hills)"

Yeah it's cooked. I admit I hated the alien premise but we needed these geniuses to resurrect this series. Koji needed to leave MGS and Del Toro needed to get 1: another game since inSane was canceled, and 2: Something horrific since his film based on the greatest work of horror fiction ever penned "At the Mountains of Madness" by H.P. Lovecraft was canceled.

Sadly it looks done and dusted. We may still get a Silent Hills game but it will be without Hideo Kojima's direction, and if P.T was anything to go by, that imo is a big shame.

What!? Because of Kojima leaving, or is there something I'm not getting here? Was disappointed when Insane was cancelled and was really looking forward to this.

Just give P.T to Shinji Mikami, he know what to do…

Add steroid pumped military men and give your character fully automatic fire arms….

No thanks.

I didn't realize The Evil Within was as you just described the whole time I was playing it.

Xenris what you talking about? Probably the only Mikami game u ever played is Vanquish…

I thought he bastardized RE 5 and 6 but apparently he had nothing to do with them.

Looking at his game history he has a really strong resume.

I thought he was responsible for the changes to the RE series. I take back what I said, although one thing I stand by but didn't say before is some of his control schemes feel outdated a bit.

Yea Mikami was long removed from Crapcom when RE5 and 6 released. His last RE game was RE4. Which was spectacular imo.

I think Mikami makes great games. I've never disliked a game by him though some aren't perfect. I have some technical issues with TEW and sometimes the dialog and voice acting can be quite bleh in many if not most of his games.

That said I disagree that Silent Hills should be given to him. Mikami's style is just too different than Kojima or even Del Toro's. It just shouldn't have been canceled.

Konami shouldn't have rubbed Kojima wrong.

It's official, according to Polygon. It's dead. And so, too, is Konami as a games publisher, apparently. I still can't wrap my head around it. One of the very best to ever to do it doesn't see console games as a viable industry any longer. If that's not a canary in the coal mine for the hobby we love, I don't know what is. Huge changes loom ahead, friends…

Not really… Konami has become out of touch. They are one of the publishers who try to push the appeal to everyone agenda.

I have no idea what Konamis plan is. They literally are ruining any chance of a future for themselves.

If Kojima leaves Konami Konami is done, they have soccer and some other games but those aren't going to help them out that much.

The fans will follow Kojima, I really hope that somehow this collaboration between him and del toro works because I just recently played P.T. on the weekend before all this stuff happened and it scared the crap out of me.

Kojima really is a genius and Konami is high to think that they will be fine without him.

So lame. They're done. With no more Kojima made MGS games and now this? What does Konami have to offer core gamers?

Konami needs to cut their losses and sell their IP's. Sell MGS to Sony Silent Hill to MS.

I really, really hope they sell their IPs, but I have a bad feeling they're going to hold on to them "just in case," and never use them again. Can you believe their may never be another Castlevania game??? Holy cow.

I don't believe. This is such an outrage. This felt like something different and innovating, judging from that demo. Noooooooooo.

RIP Silent Hills. A game that could have very well been something worth reviving Silent Hill, back to the golden days of Team Silent. I may have liked the other games that came after. None of them have the polish that 1-4 have, and when it comes down to it maybe Silent Hill should die now that Konami has proven they no longer give two S-words about the franchise.

Sony could take good care of it, but Silent Hill is one of those games that needs to be on everything. Bethesda…? They could do a possible revival of Team silent.

WHY THE HELL IS THIS HAPPENING? PT WAS SO FREAKING INCREDIBLE WHY WOULD YOU KILL OFF SOMETHING WITH THAT MUCH POTENTIAL.

This is such a shame! PT is still one of the best PS4 experiences I have had. It was genuinely chilling with an atmosphere that just sinks under your skin the more your progress. I was really looking forward to this so I am quite upset by this. Yes, we may get a different Silent Hill project in the future but this concept really stuck a chord with the horror audience and had such potential.

On a side note, if I have PT downloaded… can I keep it or will they be patching it so it is unplayable?

And with this the horror genre is officially at its end, well pretty much has been for years now

Silent Hill since the Team Silent leave got cursed all games have been average at best, Silent Hills with the MVP's it had involved was the last chance to make this franchise return to the elite status of gaming, but now that dream just fade away.

Konami must be run by people that don't play games.
