What's the difference between 1080p and 900p?

Well, according The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt developer CD Projekt Red, "very little."

During a recent preview event, the team showed off the hugely anticipated RPG and attendees got a peek at all three upcoming versions (PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC). As previously reported, the PS4 version hits 1080p while the Xbox One iteration can only manage 900. But Senior Art Producer Michał Krzemiński had a very diplomatic response to this, when prompted by GamingBolt :

"The answer is simple, we’re very confident of what we’ve managed to achieve. The Witcher is simply a good game, regardless of the platform you choose to play it on."

He added that there's "little difference" between 1080p and 900p in regard to the overall experience. In the end, the "numbers are just numbers" and "it’s the adventure and thrill you get from playing the game that counts." Hell, I've been saying that for years. I was bored of all this resolution talk about two minutes after it showed up on the scene.

If the game plays great and looks great, who cares?

Basically.

"Hashtag Gamers" these days are watching too much numbers and complaining way too much instead of actually playing video games.

Incorrect, but sufficient to try to sell copies on a poopy platform.

Yeah not like it's almost double the resolution or anything…..
Also they never mention the graphics changes only the resolution. If you pay attention most X1 games have not only decreased res but also aliasing or shadows as well.

there would be some effort to sell xb1 copies as well full well know that the ps4 one will probably sell more i would assume

I hope it does. It's actually surprising how many RPGs do sell on Xbox but of course PS has the install base now. It also should beat out PC sales. I hope that endears us to Project CD Red since they've ingnored us before. They are a great company and how can you ask for anything more than free DLC down the road?

I wouldn't mind asking for a rerelease of the Witcher 1 and 2 for PS4 seeing as my latop would probs only be able to handle Mid settings.

They ignored the PS3 because they didn't have the time to learn the tech, they easily ported to the 360 because its basically a PC.

They did have a console only game in the works called The Witcher:Rise of the white wolf, or something like that. However it got cancelled for the ps3 and 360 so they could focus on The witcher 2 for PC.

They really are a great company hopefully they get some more of their stuff on the PS4. It would be easy for them to port The Witcher 1 and 2 to the PS4 I would think. Maybe they will do that once they finish number 3.

Whatever makes people sleep easier at night. Personally, I intentionally spent my money on the better hardware and software. It's not any different than what I would do with other equipment that I buy.

If it doesn't bother someone else, then who am I to fault them for it? Happiness can be had in many different flavors.

exactly.
in fact me and a guy at work are always doing comparisons.
we have both the exact same work laptops old crappy dell latitudes only difference is one has a newer 1080P panel as it was dropped and dell replaced it when they discontinued the older panels.
were constantly doing comparisons with games and we do allot of photoshop editing and can barely tell the difference between his 1080P laptop and my 720P laptop.
and that's 720P, not 900P!
if your going to be so anal and ridclious at least do it properly and get a gaming PC, then enjoy the extra pixels at 1600P or even better 4K!
not that it makes any difference, games run like sh*t at 4K and really don't look that much better.
maybe a little, but my 6000 dollar PC struggles to run games at 4K 30FPS and breezes 120+ FPS on 1600.
so you be the judge, a slight increase at 30FPS.
or a slight decrease, at liquid smooth stable motion…….
im sorry but this resolutiongate crap is just one more nail in the bullsh*t fanboy coffin!

Interesting comparison.
I might have agreed with you before this weekend, but…
I grabbed myself a PSTV over the weekend to stream my PS4 to the basement TV. PSTV maxes out at 720p. My TV downstairs is actually better than my upstairs TV, and there was still a *noticeable* difference in quality when I was streaming Destiny.
I was shocked, to be honest.

Check your eyesights, if you have 20/20 or better you can see it.

I didn't say you cant see it, I said the difference is negligible especially considering the performance hit you take for it.
as for streaming comparing that is just silly, the bandwidth of your network at the time heavily dictates what you see.
I'm constantly having to reboot my router because apple tv just sits and buffers forever and the pictures crap then when I reboot my router its fine for a while then it bogs down again.
f*cking useless Telstra keep coming out every few weeks and say theres nothing wrong with it.
yea nothing wrong with paying for a 100MBps connection, only getting 20, and completely unable to stream freaking ATV!

Sorry but I disagree. 1080p should be the very minimum that current generation games are outputting at. How this has been an issue with Recent games baffles me. .It's the sole reason why I chose a ps4 this time around as the exclusives don't seem to be enticing on either console really.

thats reasonable point too can't dispute that, very valid i have no problems here at all i guess i had some of the same reasoning for buying a ps4 but also the expected sony games coming down the pipe

To me the framerate is far more important for the overall experience than the resolution.
But above all, the framerate *stability* is important. Cause you get used to the actual rate, as long as it is stable.

WorldEndsWithMe

Framerate is high on my list for getting DmC Definitive later this month. That mind breaking swiftness of action needs it. The 1080p high rez is just another perk.

I agree that framerate is more important than resolution, for sure.

But, 1080p *does* look slightly better than 900p, despite what the fanboys might want to argue. And if you can deliver the same framerate at a higher res, I'm all for it.

This would only be an issue if the 1080p ran horribly bad compared to a smooth 900p version.

As I said above it helps to have 20/20 or above eyesight. I think most people don't so they don't see a difference.

heh. they're just numbers that DO represent something. Technically, anything that is ran on any kind of computer is just numbers after it gets converted to machine code.

Who cares for human life. We're just molecules. =p
