Dragon Quest Heroes Headed West

JRPG fans have reason to cheer today.

As revealed over at the PlayStation Blog , Square Enix has confirmed that Dragon Quest Heroes will launch exclusively for PlayStation 4 in North America and Europe later this year.

Originally, the game wasn't scheduled to release anywhere but Japan (where it releases tomorrow, February 26). But it looks like Square Enix decided to cater to fans around the world, which is nice. Dragon Quest Heroes will be available via digital download or in physical disc format.

Co-developed by Square Enix, Omega Force and Koei Tecmo, this is definitely more action-oriented than some RPG fans would like but hey, what can you do these days? Check out some gameplay if you're interested:

I'm excited for this. As long as there is a good story in there, I have always loved the Dragon Quest series. Dragon Quest 8 is probably my favourite turn based RPG of all time.

Looks like a fun game, although I wonder if we will ever get the Dragon Quest MMO over here, or a new turn based one.

I loved DQVIII too but sadly, this doesn't look anything like that game.

Dragon Quest VIII is one of those games I enjoy playing just about every year. It's a real gem and sadly every DQ since has let me down. This game will continue that trend. Don't get your hopes up. It's sad to see a great RPG series turned into an action game and multiplayer hybrid.

Yeah Ben the more I read about this game I realize it is being developed in partnership with the people who make Dynasty Warriors.

So I expect this to be a hack and slash game. However the charm and the world here looks interesting enough to jump in and mess around with.

I really hope they get around to making a proper Dragon Quest game on next gen consoles though.

@Vertigo, yeah DQ8 is just a masterpiece in every sense of the word IMO.

I'm still not sure about this game… It won't feel like a Dragon Quest for me… I'd feel like I'm playing samurai warriors with Dragon Quest characters… Wish they'd make a Dragon Quest Turn based RPG

I feel the same. With so many action games to choose from it's a real shame that even the most well known RPG franchises have chosen to water down their gameplay.

I will absolutely buy this, even if only to support 'Dragon Quest' on PlayStation. 'VII' and 'VIII' are still two of the best games I've ever played.

This is how/why we got RE6. Just saying…

I've never played a Dragon Quest game so I have no idea how these games are.

So… like an online version of Mystic Heroes for PS2?

This game looks godly. I love the hell out of some Dynasty Warriors so I cannot WAIT for this game to come out. I only hope we can play with friends online.

I'm sure it'll be online.

It looks like a higher def version of Mystic Heroes (as mentioned above) which was also made by the same people that do Dynasty Warriors.

This doesn't actually look that braindead.
