Maybe it isn't the number PlayStation 4 owners wanted.

It has been confirmed that the upcoming sci-fi MMOFPS, Planetside 2 , will be locked at 30 frames per second when it debuts on PS4.

Throughout most of the development process, Sony Online Entertainment said they were targeting 60fps, but the frame rate would dip in large-scale battles. In the end, while the game could hit 1080p on PS4 without a problem, the developers decided it'd be better to stick to 30fps for the new console launch. Supposedly, Planetside 2 on PS4 will be comparable to the PC version's Ultra settings. That should be satisfactory, right?

This is one of the games many current PS4 owners have been waiting on for quite some time. Are you one of them?

Would prefer 60fps with lower effect setting for a FPS. In a TPS, 30 is fine, but I can actually feel the difference in first person.

Seen this game on high end PCs though, and ultra settings should look nice. I know my friend was impressed (not sure if that's the word for it) with how much it taxed his rig.

Planetside 2 is BRUTAL on rigs even what most people would consider "high end" rig can struggle and probably only get 30 to upper 40FPS on Ultra settings so considering the awful processor the PS4 has this is pretty damn good. You need a true enthusiasts rig to have stable FPS in Planetside 2 on Ultra.

If the Console players are on the same servers as the PC players the framerate is going to get them murdered. If they have their own servers than 30FPS is fine.

I prefer 60 but after playing a decent amount of this on the PC it isn't as twitchy as say CoD, or Quake so 30 FPS probably wont feel to off.

The frame rate would have absolutely nothing to do with it. They'd get murdered because console players are forced to use a controller, which is significantly slower than a mouse and keyboard.

If the frame rate remains stable at 30 fps, they'll actually have a pretty massive advantage over PC players, considering how virtually everyone runs the game at 15-40 fps.

If the game is truly running on ultra settings, and if it can somehow stay at a stable 30 fps rate, honestly; that's pretty freaking cool. Even my mid-high end gaming computer can't max this thing out at a stable frame rate. Goes anywhere from 150 to 10, depending on what's going on.

So yeah, while 60 fps would have been awesome, 30 fps in such a massive game is still pretty impressive. The average PS2 player won't have any problems with it.

Why didn't they just do what EVE Online does? Have 60FPS for the majority of gameplay but then once a certain number of players are within so many kilometers of each other scale the FPS down to 30 to avoid performance issues.

Oh well I'll take 30 FPS over scaling down to 1,200 players on a server versus 2,000 which they were heavily considering.

well all i can say again with things like these as long as it runs properly and well then fine, if it doesn't then i'll complain and i know the argument for 60 as apposed to 30 but i'd like to see it in action 1st before i judge it thats the way i see it atm

happy gaming
