We certainly heard enough evidence last year but now it's official.

During Sony's CES 2014 keynote address, legendary skateboarder Tony Hawk announced that his new console game will launch "late this year" on PlayStation 4.

Obviously, it's likely that the title will be available on other platforms. It's highly unlikely that a new Tony Hawk effort will be exclusive to PlayStation but if it is , that'd be a huge bonus for the brand. As for the game in question, Tony says the project is actually farther along in the development process than he thought, which is great news.

And yes, it will have "Tony Hawk" in the title so you can consider this an official entry in the long-running and critically acclaimed series. Here's hoping this new effort can reclaim lost glory!

There's a big hole after SKATE just dropped dead after the third entry. We need a skate franchise.

That is awesome! It's a shame that a BMX entry isn't in the works. Mirras games weren't the end all be all, but being one who is a BMXer, it's always on my wishlist… A Hoffman game would be awesome! Mat single-handedly rewrote the books and kept the sport alive.

Holy off topic…

Is it too much to ask them to keep it how the ones on ps2 was? Heres to hoping for a game identical to TH: Underground. And split-screen returning would be icing on the cake!

I would prefer it to be more like Tony Hawk 2 and 3 in how it was level based. Jam pack the levels with secrets and fun stuff to do and I think we would have a winner.

I liked the open world nature of underground and SKATE but I think these games work better level based to be honest, at least I enjoyed the level based ones more ūüôā
