Grand Theft Auto V On PlayStation 4 Fully Embraces 1080p

It's the standard graphical benchmark these days: 1080p.

Thus far in the new generation, the PlayStation 4 has managed to hit that lofty number more often than the Xbox One. Will one of the best games ever continue that trend?

According to UK publication Official PlayStation Magazine (as cited by GameSpot ), Grand Theft Auto V on PS4 will render 1080p HD:

"Glimmering 1080p presentation, hugely increased draw distance, 100 new songs, fresh wild-life, a bumper version of GTA Online, this is sandbox you've dreamt about ever since you slotted Sony's angular baby under your TV.

Farewell 720p. You served your purpose adequately enough. Still, our eyes have been gagging for 1080p's pin-sharp pleasures and the Los Santos sandbox is only too happy to oblige on PS4, running at a native 1920×1080 pixels. "

The author also mentions improved textures "across the entire game," and we're hearing about better draw-distance and enhanced clarity throughout. This should be the definitive version of last year's award-winning production and chances are, it'll be best played on Sony's console. We'll have to see if GTAV can manage 1080p on Xbox One.

wonder if this will be an XBox One bundle for $349.99
Amazon has an Xbox One bundled with both AC Unity and Blackflag for that price. Killer.

maybe sony thinks they dont need to because they're stomping MS in sales even if theyre not stomping them in games.

For sure it won't look that good as on screens they have shown because it is always show on some special Devs machines. I.e there was no aliasing at all and we know that PS4 does not have anti-aliasing build in… ok it does but some crappy one. And it doesn't do sh*t to smooth those edges!

Wait, what? The PS4's GPU is capable of nearly any mode of antialiasing. The developers get to utilize the mode and strength that they deem suitable. FSAA is very taxing, so it's very common to run a weaker AA for the sake of FPS. I'd imagine that most games would utilize modified versions of SMAA at about 2-4x with edge detect. Nothing extraordinary. Then again, downsampling is the bees knees nowadays. For example, GPU renders at 1440p and downdown samples to 1080p. The difference is much more rewarding for the performance hit than running FSAA that would tax the GPU at a comparable amount.

As someone that has always been a massive GTA fan, but considers GTA 5 to be the worst in the series, I… Have my next Gen copy preordered…

Since I preordered the PS3 version, anyone know if the blimp will be transferred over?

I hate how GTA 5 is trying to force realism. While I have no major gripes against the single player mode, I absolutely despise the abomination they call GTA Online. Honestly, I had so much fun playing GTA 4 free roam with friends, to a point where I'd overlook the ridiculous driving mechanics. It felt like an arcade experience, and I loved that. Not to mention the fact that it actually had item and health kits scattered throughout the environment.

In GTA 5, you're forced to grind for in game cash, so you can buy items. There's no longer an arcade feel to the game, as Rockstar is forcing a type of unwanted realism.

If they were to come out with an update that essentially brought back free roam to the game, I'd likely be playing it every other day. Though seeing as that is very unlikely to happen in today's micro transaction economy, I just can't get the same thrill I had with prior GTA games.

Honestly, I still loved GTA 5. The game was generally quite fun. I'm just severely disappointed in the online offerings. It lacks the traditional GTA feel in what could have been the best online game of all time.

Yet, even with my negativity toward the multiplayer in this game, I've still gone ahead an preordered it. In fact, I preordered the same game twice. I've never done that before.

K so when a game is able to hit 1080p they talk like its huge, but when it's less like 900p or 720p they tell us who cares, gameplay matters more. Smh

Just talking about the whole resolution vs gameplay talk in general that seems to be a common topic this generation.

Well if this weren't to be released with a 1080p output, I simply wouldnt see the point of it. Shouldn't all of these PS3 re-releases we're getting be in 1080p… are some of them not? Dead or Alive 5, Saints Row 4, Sleeping Dogs… they're all in 1080p right?

As for GTA5, I enjoyed it, but I haven't gone back to it since I beat it. Nor am I enticed by this revamp version. I know they're adding a lot to the textures and doing a good job of it, but I just feel like I am done with the game.

Yes and no. This re-release actually utilizes new in-game engines. The whole PC thing that has yet to happen. 900p would probably be very feasible for fps had they invested anymore detail in the game. Doesn't seem like character models have been revamped much, if at all. Textures seem ok, but the complexions and clothes don't look incredibly revamped.

I doubt you'll be missing much if you've already gotten through the game on the ps3.

Will buy! GTAV already looked impressive. Exploring that world again in 1080p will be worth it imo.

How about adding more wildlife to the online game though? I remember me & a mate were boat racing as far as the sea would take us just so we could get eaten by sharks but instead our boats just sank because their are no sharks in online mode.

I would gladly take 900p/60fps version over 1080p/30fps.
Same as every other game.
