Over 600,000 Sign Up For GameStop’s PS4 First To Know Program

UK retailer GAME says PlayStation 4 pre-orders are performing well and they expect Sony's new console to help revive the flagging game industry in the region.

And even though GameStop in the US hasn't started taking pre-orders on the PS4 just yet, they are able to gauge potential consumer interest by the number of people who have signed up for their First To Know program . It's designed for PowerUp Rewards members who want to know everything PS4-related ASAP.

And now, GameStop has announced that over 600,000 have already signed up for that First To Know initiative. And they reached that number in a matter of weeks. Said GameStop president Tony Bartel:

"With only a glance at the PS4, gamers are excited and eager to know more. Within just a few weeks, more than 600,000 people have signed up, showing strong demand for this new console."

Sony Computer Entertainment America president and CEO Jack Tretton added that such success means the "promise of PS4 is resonating with gamers." The new system is set to launch later this year during the hectic holiday season, and it's expected that Sony will reveal an official date and price at E3 in June. Those numbers will be crucial…

– All developers (so far, at least) has been very positive
– All media (so far) has been very positive
– The market responds positively (even the xbox-fans gives Sony a nod)

What's left? Sony got a winner here. They did the right thing.
There simply is no doubt any more.

I'm pretty sure developers have nothing to complain about on the PS4 as Sony went to both third and first party devs for input. If anything, Sony gave in to them and got them the easy X86.

Media and social are pretty positive, and the negative ones that I know of are only regarding the X86 and cpu, which is mute for me at this point, and a tinny bit on the interface. Fanboys don't count.

As for what's left, I wouldn't say there isn't any doubt any more. I'd like Sony to confirm that we'd at least get the basic PSN for free, which would include online gaming and demos. Also, some kind of vibe that their launch consoles won't be as horrible as the PS3 60GBs in terms of reliability. I'm probably the minor on this one, but I really want to be able to use my DS3. :/

Other than that, I'm gooooood.

The "easy" X86… It is not that this architecture is so much "easier" in the same way as a three wheel bike is easier to ride on than a two wheel bike. But what you know is always easier than what you don't know.

The thing is that the X86 architecture is what developers has experience in working on, highly likely since all the way back in school (and even before that). That makes all the difference.
In addition you got the developer tools, who for obvious reasons are very likely to be much better and mature, and three decades worth of documentation.

I like to compare it with expressing yourself. It is much easier for you to do that in a language you know than to do it in another language, *even* of that other language has a much larger and more nuanced vocabulary.
But despite the shortcomings of your own language you still express yourself much better and easier with that language, with the end result guaranteed to be better.
It's much the same we talk about here.

And that's just gamestop. I wonder how many people signed up for amazon's ps4 email alerts. And there are probably others.

What does this program exactly do? I'm pretty sure any new info on the PS4 can be found everywhere online within hours, if not a day. Is it for people that don't likes surfing the web and only checks their emails?

If there's more to it, I'd like to know. Perhaps, I'll join too. Other than that, I already have this site, and a bunch of other ones, so there better be more to it.

Was it any surprise that he would make an ass out of himself?

Maybe Pachter should look for employment with Microsoft, he's pretty good at making an ass out of himself too.:)
