If you're waiting for a game that perfectly defines the term "next-gen," this might be it.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt should look incredible when it launches for next-gen consoles and PC. More evidence of that beauty can be found in a newly published video, in which the developers talk about their ambitions and inspirations behind the game's hugely expansive world.

These are amazingly detailed locales, and the protagonist – Geralt – can explore them all on the back of a horse. It seems like the designers created just about every possible area they could imagine, from creepy forests to sweeping plains to quaint little towns and villages. This is easily one of the most atmospheric games we've ever seen and if the gameplay matches up, we'll proclaim this title an automatic GotY contender for 2015.

The Witcher 3 is scheduled to release in February.

Looks like one of those life sucking games. I'm just gonna explore that world a lot without a plan; it looks alive as opposed to Elder Scrolls' kind of "zombie" world.

On the flip flop, since it was mentioned in the same sentence with Witcher recently I hope Guerrilla's project Horizon measures up in terms of vast unique locales.

See this looks next gen to me 🙂

I'm excited to see if they can pull off a great narrative like the other 2 witcher games had, while having an open world. If they do they should win an award, because we haven't really seen that done well before.

A demo would be nice. Really interested to see how the combat mechanic works. I don't want an action game I want a WRPG even when it's toe to toe with monsters. Otherwise, at this rate it's going to be MGS:V and this next year. There simply won't be time for anything more.

Everything looked amazing. Even the fire! This game is the epitome of epic.
