What's the biggest console game launch on Twitch in 2014?

You guessed it: Bungie's blockbuster Destiny , which has garnered more viewership on Twitch than any other console game at launch this year.

Said Twitch vice-president of marketing Matthew DiPietro:

"To date, Destiny is the biggest console game launch of the year on Twitch. Our passionate community of broadcasters attracted more than 5 million unique viewers in the first week."

In the first week alone, Destiny content was viewed nearly 20 million times, and fans watched almost 240 million minutes of gameplay (it's more impressive to use minutes than hours, of course). As one might expect, the community has been plenty enthusiastic about the game, which is a blend of open-world multiplayer action and standard first-person shooter elements. Added Bungie community manager David Dague:

"Our community has always blown us away with their desire to share, entertain, and inspire. Watching them broadcast their Destiny experiences on Twitch – from the Tower to the Crucible to the Vault of Glass Raid – has been nothing short of amazing. We're humbled by the enthusiasm and we hope our community knows we're watching and laughing and applauding back home at the studio."

As the game will continue to grow, the following should grow as well.

Does anyone on here regularly watch others play videogames? It's fun when I'm sitting with friends, drinking, enjoying a killing spree in GTA. But why spend the time with apps like this? Isn't this time that could be spent, oh I don't know, playing the game?

The only times I do is to like watch tournament fights in fighting games, sometimes RTS.

I do. I watch streamers all the time. Sometimes, when I'm tired, I'd rather do that than watch TV or even play games.

Also, there's something fascinating about a really hot chick playing video games and has crazy skills. Lol

That's pretty amazing, I like playing Destiny but the missions are all pretty much the same and the combat is very basic. Dunno why people would wanna watch.

Ben I submitted my poorly edited Destiny user review. Because there wasn't an option for PS4 I had to select PS3 for the format.

Anyhow, I'm loving Destiny.
It's a good reminder that even flawed games can still be a lot of fun and addictive.

eh, probably too much a mess to salvage. and i doubt my opinion is important enough for many to care.

I've watched several Destiny streams. I enjoy watching streams, but not when they play the campaign, cuz I don't want any spoilers.
