If you haven't sampled Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn , now's the time.
Square Enix has announced the launch of a two-week free trial period for its MMORPG, and it starts today. Visit the game's website for download instructions.
You can check out the online action for up to 14 days or until your character reaches level 20. The trial also limits the available in-game activities, but at least you get a good idea of what this shared-world adventure has to offer. Furthermore, Square Enix is kicking off a Recruit a Friend program, which gives players rewards if they invite others to sign up:
If the newly recruited player subscribes for 30 days, both parties get a Friendship Circle (increases experience gained by 20 percent when below Lv. 25). The recruiter will also nab an Aetheryte Pendulum (teleportation to the closest new adventurer on their Friends list for free). If the recruit signs up for 90 days, the recruiter will also receive a whistle that summons a draught chocobo, which can transport two characters.
Final Fantasy XIV 's initial launch was disastrous but Square Enix was committed to fixing the problem. It took well over a year but when A Realm Reborn launched, critics found the experience to be much better. It is now available on both the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4, if you're wondering.
