Didn't land a code for the Destiny beta?

No worries. You don't need 'em anymore, anyway.

As of now, the beta test is available to anyone who owns a PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, or Xbox 360. The only requirement is that you're a PlayStation Plus or Xbox Live Gold subscriber.

All you have to do is head to the PSN or Xbox Dashboard, download the beta, and start playing. This means that just about everyone who wants a shot at Bungie's hotly anticipated shared-world shooter will get his or her chance. Destiny is slated to release on September 9 and it could end up being one of the biggest launches in history. Activision has also said the game has a "10-year lifespan," so expect plenty of downloadable content and various expansions.

How are you likin' the beta so far?

I knew this would happen eventually. It basically always does.

I don't get why you would make a beta public. You have a beta so you find problems to fix before the full release is out. Why limit it? Why not open it from the beginning to have many gamers try it out so your feedback is so much better and useful?

smh

Typo. I meant to write "I don't get why you WOULDN'T make a beta public".

I alpha and beta tested FFXIV. Alpha was for finding a lot of major bugs. It was closed and there were rules about sharing information publicly. Things like getting stuck in the floor, monsters that would lose all health but not die, every time you jump you keep climbing the sky…. those kinds of things, were all for Alpha.

The Beta was when they focused mostly on servers, and to load test them, you need lots of people playing. So for the network testing, they opened it right up to anyone. They had 4 phases, so they controlled the intake each phase, increasing the number of players each time. In phase 4 it was completely open, a free for all, and a pain in the ass to play. lol

does the beta make the hype seem at all worth it?

I hate betas essentially being used as demos. FFXIV, for example, was an ok game throughout the beta. The actual game has proven to be a ton more fun.
