Okay, so which Uncharted title deserves a special high-definition Remaster?

We're getting The Last Of Us: Remastered later this month, and it features director and actor commentary, upgraded 1080p visuals and 60 frames per second gameplay, previously released downloadable content, etc.

And now, in a recent Eurogamer interview , PlayStation Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida said Naughty Dog's iconic franchise is primed for an HD re-release:

"There are requests from some consumers for games that were released later in the generation, like Uncharted, which people might have missed. That would be a good candidate."

Yoshida did add that Sony doesn't wish to "flood the market with remade games," so that's a good sign. However, now that he said it, we're wondering: Which Uncharted installment would you like to see remade and upgraded? The original has the most to gain technically, of course, but Uncharted 2: Among Thieves is arguably the best entry in the esteemed series. Then again, re-releasing Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception before the fourth title arrived would make chronological sense.

What do you think?

How about focusing on new games? I bought a PS4 for new experiences not old experiences that look better.

They have to fill the void somehow.

It's not like we didn't already know that next-Gen AAA games were going to be expensive and hard to come by.

Apparently, their strategy is to go after newcomers. By offering games that they didn't play last gen on the PS3.

Remember those percentages Sony gave us last month? That showed that 48% of PS4 users never owned a PS3?

So this explains the remasters. They're going after those people.

But I guess that PS3 users who are still on the fence about buying a PS4 (that would be 95% of the PS3's current user base), could find it hard to justify making the jump.

Being able to play the games they already played in higher resolutions, might not be a big deal for 'em.

Bound to happen sooner or later. A HD trilogy release prior to Uncharted 4 would be a good idea, so all games are on one console.

But yes, it does seem a bit early for these HD editions, it wasnt until late into the PS3's lifetime got the HD collections. I am still content with my PS3 for now, so I have no urge to buy these PS4 advanced versions anyway.

so long as they release it as a trilogy for the price of one new game and don't try to screw us over by releasing them one at a time for say $40 each. If Microsoft can do the 4 Halo's for $70 then Sony better take notice. Yes Id buy it – love to play the trilogy again.

This really has to stop. Next thing you know, they will be making Killzone, GT, and LBP remasters.

They should focus on making new games.

Are they still releasing God of War: Ascension for PS4? That to me seemed utterly absurd, did it even sell well?

I'm not sure if it sold well, but it didn't receive the greatest scores, not that the game was bad.

If they were to release one, they should release them all. ulsterscot has the right idea, in my opinion. Do what MS is doing with the Halo collection and create a trilogy package for the PS4.

Seeing that U2 is my favorite I would want that one, if I could only have one. But I think it likely they'd just release a trilogy on a single Blu-Ray disc.
bbbut but it can't be done. yes. yes it probably can.
The single player portion of Uncharted 3 clocks in at only 12GB. Uncharted 2 couldn't be much more, nor could Uncharted 1. Also, they could just ditch the hi-res cutscene videos from many of the PS3 edition's cutscenes (these played while the game loaded levels in the background, making for that seamless experience) and just use realtime rendering instead, like they're doing for The Last of Us. The PS4 certainly has enough RAM to do it.

So basically my hope is on a trilogy, but I'll accept just Uncahrted 2.

i was thinking though. if this job was outsourced without help from ND it would probably be unlikely they'd have all 3 games on one disc.
The GoW PS2 HD collection comes to mind where the crappy PS2-grade FMV was left the same, where no work was done to replace that dated stuff with in-engine cutscenes. there was this jarring change from gameplay quality to video quality.
In Uncharted's case it would go from presumably 60fps 1080p to 30fps 720p on transitions from gameplay to cutscene. It wouldn't be all that pleasant but it would be tolerable… I guess. I hope that isn't the route they take.

EDIT: so everyone knows, hi-def high-bit rate compressed video as found in a game like Uncharted or TLoU takes up tons of space. Hence why ditching that for realtime rendering would be so beneficial and space saving.

What's everyone complaining for? This is every gen! Remakes from the previous one. 95 percent cross generational title. And don't forget; every upgrade is a faaaaaaaaaaaavor from Sony. Why care about long time diehards who early adopted and bought on the faith of great support from Sony and already bought and supported and played and spread the word on how great they were? Lets just remake Uncharted a game that came out so late in the gen. Oh right it came out in the FIRST year. Good grief….

This is significantly less of a favor and more of a money grab since Uncharted isn't some late-comer that others missed out on, if you wanted Uncharted you already bought a PS3.

I have no problems with re-mastered games, as long as it doesn't interfere with development of new games, and are priced reasonably, now who would not want to play PS1/PS2/early PS3 gems on the PS4 with full 1080P HD graphics at 60FPS.

D1P for me as long as it doesn't hinder ND from making new games. I am guessing that they have a remaster department in ND. A Thief's End is also being worked on so I am good with this news. I would love to see all 3 Uncharted PS3 games on my PS4 with the MP in tow! I would also love to see all God of War games on the PS4 as well. GoW and GoWII would have to be completely remastered for the PS4. I don't want to see a port of the HD collection. Seriously, just give them all the Tomb Raider DE and The Last of Us Remastered treatment.

Crabba

It's a weird statement when saying "…games that were released later in the generation, like Uncharted" sort of indicating Uncharted 3 since that's the only Uncharted game released late in the generation but it's also the "worst" in the series, and the most technically advanced, so makes the least sense to make an HD upgrade of.

I'd love an HD upgrade of Uncharted: Drake's Fortune though since it's in my opinion the best game in the series, especially if you take out the technical inferiorities, so that would be the game that would gain the most from an HD remake.

Uncharted 2 was my favorite one so far, but Uncharted: Drake's Fortune was an amazing game and the graphics were on par with Kojima's MGS4. If Sony is going to offer Uncharted in 1080p, then I want all of them on one disc. I would be more than happy to buy them again.

With Yoshida's recent comments, it's obvious PS4 is going to be a haven for indie games and re-releases. The PS4 lineup of exclusives in 2015 is very poor, and I'm seeing no signs of things improving. The constant bs talk of 'not many PS4 owners owned PS3 so these re-releases are good for them' also clearly shows where $ony's focus is. As a long time PlayStation gamer and early adopter of the PS4, I am disgusted by what I am seeing but as long as the fanboys keep defending and damage controlling this garbage nothing will change.

Slightly of topic. Does anyone else feel that there is less variety in today's market? We basically are offered games from two sets: the mainstream set of games or the indie set of games. The first is too rigid and the later is too, well, indie. It feels like there is no in between.

Like when was the last time we saw a game like Bust a Groove? Or Tombi? Those probably wouldn't be mainstream and I don't suppose they would be considered indie either. They are in the "in between" games that I refer to; games that are both creative and traditional at the same time.

Yah know what I mean?

and I say that because not all indie games feel equally cheap.

other games like War Thunder F2P on PS4 feels more expensive than your usual indie title but not as decked out as a AAA game.

EDIT: check out Child of Light and Transistor for PS4 too. Both are unique.
umm and isn't Bust a Groove a dance game from the dance-fad era? they're still around if you look harder.

Bust A Groove was WAY before a fad. Still and amazing title with an amazing soundtrack (with the exeption of Ham's song. A song about burgers? COME ON!) And while there is Project Diva, which is great, there is nothing out there where you dance battle a 10 story robot to a sweet techno song.

Yeah that burger song sucked. My favourites were Kitty N's song and the Robo-Z song.

They don't want to flood the market, with remade games, they just want to re-release every damn PS3 game on PS4. The Xbox One really doesn't look as bad as it did this time a year ago.

Every time I hear Yoshida talk, I get the feeling that he may be the most out of touch exec in gaming at this point. New AAA IPs are what made PlayStation the leader Iit is today and this dopey spoon is saying he doesn't understand why gamers would crave such a thing. I didn't buy a PS4 with all this crackling horsepower to play indie games and remasters…

Gamer46
Gamer46

He needs to go for sure and he can take Andrew House and Adam Boyes with him. PS4 to this point has succeed despite them, but since MS dumped Don Mattrick, who was way in over his head, and replaced him with an actual game guy in Phil Spencer the Xbox Division has turned things around, big time, and the Xbox One is actually an appealing product with great content in both the 'AAA' and indie departments. Meanwhile, Sony's idea of delivering is to fill the system with indies then put out re-releases and play it off as 'well many of the new PS4 owners never had a PS3.' That's great, there's also many like myself who have bought every PS system, have been there from the get go and we should also be a priority. A year-late, 30 frame per second racing game and LBP 3 don't cut it.

I'm super excited for 6-7 years from now when the PS5 releases! Then we can all have the exact same conversations again filled with awe and wonder about how crazy it is there are no new games in year 1!

Amidst the groans, I'm still unsurprised. (And un-invested, I should add)

Underdog15

I should add, I'm not really in support of so many remakes, myself, although there's enough rationale behind TLoU to satisfy me. I just think it's insane how many people think this is such an unnatural and surprising thing that is happening. The remake thing is new this generation (at least in scale), but the lack of quality options isn't.

Don't forget, the only system with a couple good titles is the WiiU (out over a year) and the XB1 is going through the same drought issues hoping things like another Halo re-release will help. Lets just ride the waves a bit. It'll wash up on a tropical shore eventually.

they would be a fantastic candidate.
id love to see uncharted 1-3 remastered in uncharted 4s engine.
but id much rather see ND spending their time on new games, so unless $ony has a third party studio to hand this off too like they did sanarzu and sly cooper HD then no thanks.
plus if ANY ND game is getting a HD remake it HAS to be crash bandicoot!

Dude idk if they can do this. As i recall each uncharted is roughly 22gb plus a bit of dlc. I doubt sony will start producing and making 100gb blurays yet for the ps4 and games this early on. At max the ls3 and ps4 use 50gig ones and we need a 100gig if they try to fit on one disc ecause they also need breathing room to remaster each title for ps4. In the end i doubt sony would either produce a 100gb disc (which they are available) or even two discs just bcz of this fact. So do t hold your breath for the momentNowhere near Rockford. I can see doing this for Wii and Xbox owners who missed out on Uncharted last generation, which could be a large number.

Personally, I'd only buy it again if it was all three bundled together.

It would be cool to see them update the first one with the controls and graphics of 2 and 3.
