Has Hype For The Order: 1886 Dwindled Since The Delay?

I'm sure The Order: 1886 remains one of the most anticipated games of the new generation.

For PlayStation 4 owners, it's definitely at – or near – the top of their priority lists in the future. That being said, has anyone noticed that the massive hype surrounding this game has dwindled since the announcement of the delay?

I mean, ever since we learned we wouldn't see The Order until next year, I think the number of headlines featuring this game have been cut in half. Perhaps that's to be expected; if it's not coming out this holiday season, we've shifted our focus to games that are on tap for the end of the year. There's some logic to that explanation, correct? Furthermore, it's perfectly reasonable to assume that the hype will once again hit a fever pitch at the start of 2015, especially if Sony kicks up the marketing.

However, I'm just wondering if the slackened attention is due to doubt and skepticism on the part of gamers. It's a little ironic that the game was officially delayed mere days after that underwhelming gameplay surfaced; I say "underwhelming" because it seemed to generate plenty of "meh" headlines. Now that the game has been pushed back, have many gamers just sort of dismissed it from their minds? And if so, is that only temporary?

These questions may not matter to everyone, but "the buzz" is critical for any and all consumer products. And that goes triple for gaming.

Well, rumors going around the reason it was delayed was for some form of coop/multiplayer application. I do hope for some coop, but I have no idea whats going on with that. Its what I've heard.

Another rumor is that Nintendo and Sony will be gone next year and only Xbox will be left, and thats from the very nice manager at Gamestop that I was forced to go to the other day when Walmart didn't have a game I wanted. So guys we should all sell our ps4's ps3's cause we won't be able to play them anymore starting next year 🙁

I already traded in my ps4. I figured I could get the more money for it now than when Sony and Nintendo employees all scatter to EA and Activision to make bi-annual editions of revamped crap exclusively for XBone.

Any human being who believes Ninty and Sony are going to 'disappear' in the gaming world are completely insane.

It is actually more likely that Microsoft will sell off the Xbox brand to someone like Amazon.

The game looks mediocre. Probably the main reason for tye dwindling hype. The E3 trailer was maybe one of the worst ever. I like how the trailer is basically saying "Yeah we know the teaser implied a very interesting premise with monsters and the supernatural but you really are going to fight humans most of the time."

"However, I'm just wondering if the slackened attention is due to doubt and skepticism on the part of gamers."

I think a lot of us played the Destiny Alpha and the available hype has been rightfully shifted. Destiny is coming sooner and frankly, appears to be a whole lot better than many gamers (me included) expected before participating in the Alpha. That thing certainly yanked my attention in its direction and I've been gobbling up all the info I can find on it. My YouTube history is blanketed with Destiny videos. It's coming at least 3 months prior to The Order. I think The Order will be just fine and the hype machine for it will engage full throttle after the Christmas season.

I'm not sure Destiny is the kind of game that's going to steal all the attention from the kind of fan base that will like The Order.

Online FPS certainly wouldn't pull my full attention if I'm waiting for what could be the next major cinematic linear TPS.

I don't think those audiences are necessarily mutually exclusive. In fact, I'm willing to guess the overlap is actually pretty large.

Plus, I think your characterization of Destiny as only an "online FPS" misses the mark on what the game really offers. What did you think of the Alpha?

I thought it felt like a basic online FPS to be honest with ya.

Did you play the Alpha? How far? How many characters? How far did you level them? Did you play the Strike? The Crucible?

You said it felt like a "basic online FPS". Which one(s) would you compare out to then? To which ones was it similar?

I played the Alpha enough. Reminded me of Dust 514, but more colorful or MAG but more space futurey.

I've been the same way Radd. I still have hopes that The Order will be great. But after that small taste of Destiny it's all I can think about lately. Only 17 days 'till beta time!

Oh world.

I think we are coming to a period where people can't simply say "its a basic online FPS" anymore.

Not when games like Wolfenstein are being praised for being a basic FPS game.

I can't think of a single thing that would make a game more than just a 'basic fps game'.

I hate to agree with KidPresentable but I think the meh gameplay helped in killing some of the hype. It didn't look exceptional or somehow new, but I think it's gonna surprise the doubters. You all know full well that watching a youtube of a game is a terrible way to pass judgement on it.

In any case, the lost hype is an exact copy of what happened to Watch Dogs. By that model the hype will return around release time to make it a big splash.

I agree that the gameplay isn't anything new, but the game looks great storywise. I'm sure it will blow us away. I'm probably in the minority, but I actually like the dull and grey look of the game. It adds to the tension.

Game looks pretty but what we've seen of the gameplay seems very mediocre, that's what killed the hype. Maybe when the game comes out those of us who are doubting the game will be pleasantly surprised. Right now though the only two PS4 exclusives to give a damn about are Bloodborne and Uncharted 4. Sony's first parties need to step it up a notch, now.

I was never hyped to begin with, and there was nothing we saw at E3 who changed that.

Somebody has dropped the ball somewhere on just how the game would be rolled out. It's like there was no plan at all.

Beam, truthfully, nothing they could've shown outside of wandering around in vast open worlds was going to impress you in the first place.
It could've been TLoU quality excitement and you would've been sleeping.

Beamboom

Thaty is simply not true, Temmy. TLoU looked *awesome* when first shown. I can't understand how anyone can be excited of what we've seen so far of The Order. I really can't.

If that game excites you from what we've seen so far, it must mean that pretty much *any* third person shooter excites you. Yes I think it looked that generic.

I think it is the era in which the game is played that has many peeps think … meh. I mean the game looks great and all, but the areas look like old trashy, crappy, England. I watched the gameplay and it looked awesome for sure. But …

Old trashy crappy england?

Not offensive at all.

Victorian England is a very interesting period of time, people have been crying out for an AC game to be set during this time period for years.

I don't know if the hype has dwindled, but even if it has, it does not change the fact that the game has great promise.

I don't know why people complain about the dull and grey look of the game. I mean, we're looking at England, not at Cancun. And we are also looking at a tense and hostile environment. It looks perfect to me.

The game is looking great. With so many great games, games built for the nextgen, coming out first I think it's easy to just let this one cook in the back's of our minds. The haters are gonna hate and act unimpressed all they want. I remember even thinking the TLoU's game play clips didn't seem all that great way back when.

The reviewers will ring in with what it actually deserves come the day, and then it'll likely draw in the sales one way or another.

EDIT: i think it's important to remember that while the PS4 is beating the XO by a lot, there are still a lot of XO defenders out there who want nothing more than to crap on anything PS4.

people who are bashing on Order? Sure. Why not?
outside of them it's probably highly cynical pretentious gamers who can't be pleased by anything, as if it's their sole purpose in life to complain about future entertainment on message boards.

I just don't see that. There a plenty of PS fans, myself included, that are disappointed with The Order. Being a fan does not mean you have to be a blind, mindless Kool Aid drinker who takes everything produced by Sony as amazing and great and hope that multiplats like Destiny spur on sales to "beat" another console maker in a trumped up war that really only benefits rich businessmen.

I really dont see whats wrong with the game… It looked good from what i saw and with this delay it will only look better for when its realeased… Only thing i was disappointed with was the really short gameplay trailer they showed sinced i was expecting more gameplay time… I think i was more disappointed with ND bc i was expecting a actual trailer of Uncharted not another teaser

that's just wonderful to know Kid. I get the feeling that if Order racked in 50+ GotY awards you would be one of those who still find reasons to dislike it, along with those like you as they had TLoU and probably Uncharted before it. Some gamers pride themselves in being contrary and cynical to what's popular and obviously strong. There's a lot more of them around than I'd care to see.
the very fact that people could be so beset against a game that has only showed glimpses of the whole, glimpses that show tremendous production quality and strong gameplay elements of the whole, just aren't worth my time in debate. So go about your way feeling so mediocre about it while in all likelihood the game will be revered as something great and well enjoyed by the majority of gamers willing to play it when the time comes. and per the usual, there will always be that group of guys hanging around lamenting how overrated and unremarkable it all is. they're nuts and they should all conglomerate on some other site.

So what you're saying is if you see a glimpse of footage you have the uncanny ability to deem it great and revered and conversely if I see tye same footage and say it looks mediocre I'm an evil hater that should …conglomerate (is that right? lol) elsewhere since seeing said opinions cause you great discomfort? Ok.

There were people complaining about TLoU? I have many a Xbox fanboy friends who bought a PS3 just to play TLoU or have gone with PS4 first in part because of Naughty Dog's games. And while they had never converted, I knew plenty who acknowledged the Uncharted series was great. So lets just leave those two game series out of this, those games never got crapped on, there was no conspiracy fanboy bs against them and no fanboy bs against The Order either, only people saying there is, are fanboys themselves. The Order looks great, the gameplay seems mediocre, simple as that. Maybe it comes out and surprises people, I hope it does because initially I was hyped due in large part to the era it's set in, but what we've seen so far it just looks like cutscene, followed by brief, generic shooter section, than right into another cutscene. Maybe they're just presenting it wrong but I'm waiting to be impressed by more than just how nice it looks.

Temjin001

Yes Gamer, Kid here was one of them. He has a history on these boards as being one who goes against the grain of what is great and what is popular. He knocked on TLoU plenty and created lousy arguments in his defense.
It's hard to take anything he suggests with credibility because he's so skewed in his opinion.

As for Order. It'll likely be a great game because 90+ percent of AAA games are great games. I've just played through this list of games on my PS4:
AC4
Tomb Raider DE
Rayman Legends
Infamous SS
KZ Shadow Fall
and Transistor
Destiny (Alpha)
I've been playing Titanfall on my PC

They're all great games, except for Shadowfall's single player. It has problems in more areas than one and I couldn't call that experience great. As for it's multiplayer? Don't know. Don't care.
All of these titles other than Transistor are of AAA talent and budget. Most AAA games are great games these days. It's as simple as that. People can sit there and complain and be disappointed all they want with what they've seen. But as it stands, it'll likely be something great, possibly extraordinary.

I hope you're right. Like I said, this game was initially on my to-buy my list, after all the recent showings, that is no longer the case. Hopefully the delay really is for more than just getting it out of the Destiny, AC, BF, CoD window.

im not as excited for the game anymore. the delay just solidified my expectations that this game is prolly going to be mediocre and just another over hyped game like watch dogs.

with destiny coming out, i think thats going to take up a lot of peoples time til the end of the year since theres nothing really good coming out between sept-dec unless i oversaw a release list. i mean yeah i know of the games coming out, i just dont think theyll be played as much as destiny

Im not sure what more some people are expecting from the gameplay – what I've seen looks awesome. It may be standard Gear Of Warsy TPS with next gen graphics – but thats just fine by me as I love GOW.

Im thoroughly stoked for this puppy – kind of glad its been put off until early next year – gives us time to play Destiny and FC4.

Akuma_

Well I am not really hyped for the game anymore, I just think they announced it WAY too early. It doesn't help that the gameplay they keep showing off is basically the same thing.

Yeah it looks amazing, yeah the gameplay looks solid, but we need a bit more variety.

But as always, I am sure it won't matter, people will hype this game to the point where no game could possibly reach and it will be considered a failure due to the GIGANTIC expectations of gamers, as always.
