We all knew it was coming, but it's always nice when it's official.

Ubisoft has confirmed that Far Cry 4 is in development, and we've got some baseline information on the anticipated sequel.

Players will explore Kyrat, "a breathtaking, perilous and wild region of the Himalayas, struggling under the regime of a despotic self-appointed king." As usual, we'll get a wide array of weapons and vehicles, and a variety of potentially dangerous animals will roam the landscape as well. Said executive producer Dan Hay:

"Following the success of Far Cry 3, we wanted to take the franchise to the next level and create a game that will surprise players and exceed fans' expectations. Given the unique setting, we feel Far Cry 4 will stand out as a top first-person shooter and we're eager to reveal more about the game in the coming months."

Pre-ordering Far Cry 4 will net you a limited edition version that features Hurk's Redemption, a three-part single-player mission pack. If you're familiar with the last series installment, you'll know Hurk… You'll also get his main weapon, the harpoon gun called The Impaler.

The new Far Cry is coming to the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC on November 18.

I think Ubisoft is all about annualization of their AAA games. I suspect we'll see something new FC every year from here on out.

I'm okay with that. I love FC.

No, it'll have been near a full two years since the last one. Seems entirely reasonable to me.

Temjin,
Apparently a part of their fiscal report mentioned that they were looking to put out games in their franchises more regularly, so it's definitely plausible. Maybe they'll offset mainline entries with Blood Dragon entries…

It would probably take me 3 years to get through one of em.

yah, lawless, I saw that report too. I bet FC was one franchise being referenced there.

Yes, at least one year too early. I'm still working on FC3…!

But! That only means that we'll get FC4 for a penny when we are ready to play it. 🙂

wow, nice to see a release date already, so i guess there is one game for me to look forward to this year.
i just hope they keep the combat and upgrade system from FC3, the massive upgrades and focus on stealth and your knife, and killing animals to create new packs, was what made the game so addictive and enjoyable!
id love to see the FC team create a new mercenaries game, ah imagine how awesome that would be!

I picked up FC3 last August (for $20 no less) and loved it. Looking forward to this new instalment and they'll probably get the full $60 out of me this time!

I wish we could be surprised by game announcements and teasers, as the days of yore.. Why now? It would've netted much more praise if they unveiled it during E3, instead of telling us what to expect coming into the show. I do believe we'll get a surprise (or two), but there's not much interest in seeing games we've all heard of. The excitement will always and forever be the unknown…
